Thank you, KAPA, for treating us all to a delicious Korean Lunch on Teacher/Staff Appreciation Day!

WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR OUR PARENT VOLUNTEERS!
WE THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!

WE LOVE OUR BUS DRIVERS!
Dear Community Families,
What an incredible week of celebration, gratitude, and WINNING at Community!
We kicked things off on Tuesday with a heartfelt gesture from our families—parents honored our amazing staff and teachers with a delicious lunch generously provided by our Korean moms. A big thank you to KAPA for this thoughtful treat!
Then, on Thursday, we turned the tables and celebrated our wonderful parent volunteers. They enjoyed a tasty pasta and salad lunch and received beautifully designed greeting cards featuring artwork created by our very own CMCS students.
On Friday, our appreciation continued with a special breakfast for our dedicated bus drivers, following a warm recognition during the Morning Assembly.
We hope every member of our school community feels just how valued and appreciated they are for the incredible contributions they make each and every day to support our deserving students.
In academic news, we are beaming with pride after the release of Math Kangaroo scores this week! An incredible EIGHTEEN students placed in the Top 20 nationally—a truly remarkable accomplishment. Read more about our Math Champions below!
The celebrations continued on Wednesday evening, when we received the exciting news that our 5th Grade Conga Team won FIRST PLACE at the Conga Kids Semi-Finals!
Congratulations to all of our amazing WINNERS!
Also on Wednesday, we welcomed our LAUSD Charter Division advisor for the Annual Charter Oversight Visit. It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the vibrant learning happening across our campus.
Classroom visits included our first graders preparing for their upcoming AAPI presentations and third graders creating stunning Steampunk-inspired art with our talented visual arts teacher, Kathleen. Our advisor was thoroughly impressed by the engagement, creativity, and dedication of our students, teachers, and staff.
Looking ahead, our 5th graders are gearing up for one of the most anticipated experiences of their CMCS journey: CIMI Camp!
Held at the Catalina Island Marine Institute, CIMI Camp offers hands-on marine science labs, ocean exploration, and a true sense of island adventure. It’s a trip students look forward to for years—and remember for a lifetime.
Have an amazing time, 5th graders—stay safe and enjoy the adventure!
Before the fun begins, our 5th graders will complete the SBAC Science assessment (CAST) and wrap up any remaining make-up tests. Yes—it’s the final stretch of testing! Make-up testing will continue through May 23rd for students who were absent during the regular testing period.
While our 3rd through 5th graders breathe a well-earned sigh of relief, it’s now time for our Kindergarten through 2nd grade students to shine as they begin their End-of-Year DIBELS (foundational reading skills) and i-Ready Math assessments.
Finally, our roofing project is officially underway! Tuesday’s unexpected rain caused leaks in Rooms 21 and 22, but we’re pleased to report that by week’s end, new roofs had been installed over all first grade classrooms, the pink bungalow, and Room 23.
Read more below to find out which rooms are scheduled for roofing next!
It’s certainly been a busy but exciting week at Community! We hope your students had a restful weekend and are feeling refreshed for another wonderful week of learning, discovery, and connection.
Best,
Toni

Exciting News- Our School Website is Getting an Upgrade
Our current school website, communitymagnet.org, will be replaced with a new Edlio-powered website, in alignment with LAUSD requirements. This transition ensures consistency across all LAUSD school websites while improving accessibility and functionality for our community.
Stay tuned for more details about our new site—we’ll share updates soon.
- Arrive at CMCS between 7:30 and 8:00
- Enter through the gate on the EAST side of the school.
- Drive along the left curb. The right curb is a bus lane whether or not the buses have arrived.
- Wait patiently in a single file line along the left curb of the driveway.
- When a valet volunteer or LAUSD staff directs you, turn right at the parking lot and pull up to the Valet Curb. There can be a maximum of 3 cars at the Valet Curb.
- Under no circumstances can you park with your child and walk them through the parking lot. If, especially during these first weeks of school, you want to walk your child to the front gate, you MUST drop your child at the Valet Curb and then park your car. Your child can wait for you near the valet volunteers on the bench by the Valet Curb.
- When you arrive at the Valet Curb, your child should be ready to exit the car from the passenger side of the vehicle. IF a passenger side exit from your vehicle is unavailable, your child must wait until a valet volunteer opens the driver side door and escorts them in front of your car onto the curb.
- Under no circumstances should the driver exit the vehicle.
- Do not pull around cars in the valet line including at the Valet Curb. The line is single file from the east gate entrance through to the west gate exit. Please wait your turn to drop off your child and to exit campus.
- FINALLY, be patient and kind. The valet volunteers and LAUSD staff are there for the safety of your children. Please treat them, the children, and the other drivers with respect.
