Looking Ahead to Back-to-School Night!
Good Evening, CMCS Families,
It's been a whirlwind week! We've had Pupil Free day (Back to School for All Staff), First Day of School, Behavior Assemblies, First Safety Drill, First Friday Assembly (Toni's Awards), and First Tea Time with Toni!!!
You can check out all of the fabulous students who earned recognition during last week's Toni's Awards on communitymagnet.org. We have been hard at work updating the website, so please use it, as well as Fresh Schools, as a resource for all things CMCS.
Our first Tea Time with Toni was a standing room only event! Phyllis and parent, Sarah Benicasa, introduced RULER, the social-emotional program we're implementing this year at CMCS. You can learn more about the program here: http://ei.yale.edu/ruler/ruler-overview/. We also talked about CMCS's designation as an Empowered Learner Program school. We are now a 1:1 device school with Chromebooks for every student in Grades 2-5 and iPads for every student in Grades K-1. Parent workshops will be announced soon. We ended Tea Time with a look at student performance data from the 2018-2019 school year. We celebrated the overall progress made in ELA (9% increase since 2017) and Math (3% increase since 2017) and very high year-long percentiles in DIBELS!! We discussed the need for better attendance. And we took a good look at the performance gaps between our Asian and White students vs. Latinx and Black students. We will continue that discussion throughout the year as we look for ways to close the gap.
Looking ahead:
Please sign up now to support CMCS. Click on the link below to join a committee or volunteer for a CMCS event. We would like to have this step complete before Back-to-School Night to avoid paper sign-up sheets.
