Looking Ahead to Back-to-School Night!

Good Evening, CMCS Families, It's been a whirlwind week! We've had Pupil Free day (Back to School for All Staff), First Day of School, Behavior Assemblies, First Safety Drill, First Friday Assembly (Toni's Awards), and First Tea Time with Toni!!! You can check out all of the fabulous students who earned recognition during last week's Toni's Awards on communitymagnet.org.  We have been hard at work updating the website, so please use it, as well as Fresh Schools,  as a resource for all things CMCS. Our first Tea Time with Toni was a standing room only event! Phyllis and parent, Sarah Benicasa, introduced RULER, the social-emotional program we're implementing this year at CMCS. You can learn more about the program here:  http://ei.yale.edu/ruler/ruler-overview/ .  We also talked about CMCS's designation as an Empowered Learner Program school. We are now a 1:1 device school with Chromebooks for every student in Grades 2-5 and iPads for every student in Gr

Countdown to the New Year

The week before school starts is one of the busiest at Community Magnet! Maria and Kryshawna in the office have been busy enrolling new families, updating information in our computer systems, and preparing class rosters for teachers.  Alice and Xantipa have been filling teacher supply requests, preparing for Parent Orientation, and updating our display case at the front of the school. Kathryn has been in close communication with the LAUSD Transportation Office, preparing lists and nametags, and fielding questions and concerns from parents about bus routes. This year, bus transportation will be as smooth as ever because Kathryn has it handled!! Among other things, Phyllis has been attending meetings, adding families from the waitlist, and training our teachers on our new social-emotional program, RULER. Andrew and Rick have been deep cleaning classrooms, sweeping away spider webs, getting things repaired around campus, and making sure everything is up and running for our teachers an

Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of Community Magnet Charter School, Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! It is my great privilege and honor to introduce myself as the new principal of CMCS. I've had the pleasure of meeting many of the families during the summer playdates and talking to teachers and staff on campus. I am humbled by the very warm welcome I've received from everyone and I look forward to meeting the entire school community over the next few weeks. This school year marks my 30th year as an educator with Los Angeles Unified School District. I served as an assistant principal for the past five years in local district northwest. I am very excited to be a new principal and couldn't have hoped for a better school community than CMCS! As your principal, I will work hard to continue the rich traditions, rigorous academic experiences, and warm community spirit that sets CMCS apart from any other school. I look forward to working with the families, tea
