Good Afternoon Community Family, Dine & Donate Thank you to everyone who participated in our Dine & Donate event at the Lemonade Restaurants this past Thursday and to Lynda Andrews, 4th grade parent, for organizing it.  This is a fun and easy way to support Community Magnet while spending quality time with family and friends over a delicious meal! African American History Celebration Amadou Ba and his kora Yummy foods Our African American History Month celebration was the high point of the week! Traditional soul food and Egyptian dishes, including kibbeh and haleiwa, were served and it was all delicious ! We were treated to the brilliant music of the kora, a string instrument from West Africa, played by Amadou Ba, a musician from Senegal. The students were mesmerized by the beautiful, gentle sounds of the kora. Interesting trivia: Amadou Ba played on the soundtrack of the Black Panther movie!! A Black History museum               came to life in the auditorium

A Night to Remember

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER What a night! The Sweethearts Family Dance was such an exciting, lively, and fun family event! I was warned not to miss this particular Community event (not that I would) because of the sheer magic and happiness it brings to everyone in our school community. It actually felt like Disneyland -- everyone was in a great mood with lots of smiles, cute little princess girls in beautiful dresses, delicious foods, amazing lemonade, colorful glow sticks, lots of dancing, and the best DJs  I've ever seen or heard at a school dance! Boy, were they amazing-- with the music pumping, they got EVERYONE on the dance floor!! Speaking of the dance floor: did you catch me flossing on the dance floor??? 😁(I finally understand why they call it flossing . . . duh!) I even almost learned the hop-on-one-foot-while-pumping-the-other-foot-with-the-same-side-arm pumping-in-the-opposite-direction-in-the-air dance. I don't know what it's called, but I couldn't get my coo

February News You Can Use!

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP February is the month to celebrate Black History and while I usually try to include a variety of voices in our celebration of great African-Americans (for he certainly is not the only one), I find MLK’s voice to be one that teaches important lessons that are still so relevant today.   This particular quote ties in with an interesting discussion I had with parents during Tea Time with Toni this past Friday. The January Tea Time with Toni topic was Digital Citizenship. Those in attendance had the opportunity to see and discuss how social media can influence the unattended and affect the futures of the unguided.   We talked about how important it is, as parents, to guide our children as they begin to make their own marks in digital society and to monitor them as they take in all that is offered on the world-wide web. As we develop our technology program at Community, our first goal is to educate our students on how to navigate the internet safely and to
