March Madness!
Good Afternoon Community Family,
Dine & Donate
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Dine & Donate event at the Lemonade Restaurants this past Thursday and to Lynda Andrews, 4th grade parent, for organizing it. This is a fun and easy way to support Community Magnet while spending quality time with family and friends over a delicious meal!
African American History Celebration
Our African American History Month celebration was the high point of the week! Traditional soul food and Egyptian dishes, including kibbeh and haleiwa, were served and it was all delicious! We were treated to the brilliant music of the kora, a string instrument from West Africa, played by Amadou Ba, a musician from Senegal. The students were mesmerized by the beautiful, gentle sounds of the kora. Interesting trivia: Amadou Ba played on the soundtrack of the Black Panther movie!! A Black History museum came to life in the auditorium, each wall decorated with historical photographs, information, and artifacts. A big thank you to our two amazing hostesses, parents Taiye and Velicia! What an excellent way to celebrate CMCS diversity!
5th Grade African American History Presentation
Thank you and bravo to our awesome 5th grade students and their teachers, Kirsten and Brandon. They performed one of my favorite Stevie Wonder hits, "For Once in My Life". I had to order textbooks for next year at an off-campus meeting, so I missed the show, but I heard it was a great performance!
