It's Nice to Meet You

Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of Community Magnet Charter School,

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! It is my great privilege and honor to introduce myself as the new principal of CMCS. I've had the pleasure of meeting many of the families during the summer playdates and talking to teachers and staff on campus. I am humbled by the very warm welcome I've received from everyone and I look forward to meeting the entire school community over the next few weeks.

This school year marks my 30th year as an educator with Los Angeles Unified School District. I served as an assistant principal for the past five years in local district northwest. I am very excited to be a new principal and couldn't have hoped for a better school community than CMCS!

As your principal, I will work hard to continue the rich traditions, rigorous academic experiences, and warm community spirit that sets CMCS apart from any other school. I look forward to working with the families, teachers, and staff to provide a rich and nurturing learning environment that will prepare every student to meet the challenges of the 21st century and beyond.

  Back-to-School Night is next week! It will be a very busy night for parents as we introduce our teachers and our new CFF board members, check out the classrooms and textbooks, and learn what our students will be doing and learning this school year. Parents will be asked to sign up for committees and/or Room Parent positions. Community Council nominees will introduce themselves before ballot voting at each grade level. While this event will be a busy and exciting night for parents, that's not necessarily the case for the students! Since they do  not actively participate in this event, they will have an especially long day at school. For these reasons, we ask that you please plan to  make childcare arrangements away from campus. There will be no childcare or supervision available at Back-to-School night. IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Dear Community Families, Over the weekend, I was notified that Got Game Camp, our after-school program, would be taking a temporary pause in operation effective immediately. Coach K has contacted all affected families and he and his team are working around the clock to get the program back up and running as soon as possible. We wish them the best of luck in this endeavor and hope for their quick return. Got Game has been a very supportive partner to Community Magnet over the years and has proven time and time again to be a stable and reliable program. However, I understand that many of our families depend on consistent after-school care and are in immediate need of another option. I have been working throughout the weekend to ensure that there would be no interruption in after-school care at Community for those families. I appreciate the immediate response and support  from LAUSD Operations and Beyond the Bell  in helping to find an after-school program for Community as we wait for Got
