June is Pride Month!

Dear Community Families,

Hooray! All of our academic testing for the 2024–2025 school year is officially complete! While teaching and learning will continue through the final days of the semester, our campus will take on a more festive feel as we celebrate with end-of-year activities—including classroom parties, the annual Staff vs. 5th Grade Kickball Game, fifth grade culmination events, and our can't-miss Bubble Parade on the last day of school. Please make every effort to have your child present so they don’t miss out on the fun! And don’t forget—Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, are minimum days with a 12:50 p.m. dismissal. The last day of school, Tuesday, June 10, will be a shortened day with dismissal at 1:30 p.m.

This week, our 5th graders will kick things off with an Ice Cream Social on Monday and wrap it all up with their Culmination Ceremony on Friday. We are incredibly proud of this remarkable group and excited to see what the future holds for each of them.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve had so much to celebrate—highlights include the Math Kangaroo Ceremony, our Retirement Celebration Breakfast, and International Children's Day. Be sure to check out some great photos from these memorable events below.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Best,

Toni

Kindergarten - Boots on the Ground!

Our Kindergarteners took center stage to represent the USA with a dance celebrating cowboy culture! Thank you to Myko, CMCS dance teacher, for choreographing and teaching Rooms 5, 6, and 7 the moves that impressed everyone!

First Grade - Korean Dance

Rooms 21, 22, and 24 performed a dance to "Beautiful Korea" using Hansam, the long sleeve that was made to cover the hands and helps elegantly express the sound of the music. A big thank you to Eun-mi, Kayla's mom, and Alice for choreographing the dance and working with the kids to learn this beautiful dance.

Second Grade - Israeli Dance

A big thank you to Noa, Alma's mom, for volunteering her talent and time to teach the students in Rooms 8, 9, and 10 this traditional Israeli folk dance created to bring people together in harmony and love.

Third Grade - Indian Dance

Rooms 17, 18, and 20 wowed the crowd with a Bollywood extravaganza. They picked up their steps quickly thanks to Anne, Hansol's mom, who once again shared her talent and time to prepare our 3rd graders.

Fourth Grade - Middle Eastern Dance

Rooms 15, 16 and 25 worked hard with our dance teacher, Myko, to learn a traditional dance popular throughout the Middle East. Their beautiful dance celebrated unity. Thank you, Myko!

Fifth Grade - Conga Dance

Rooms 3, 13, and 14 danced the Salsa to "Abre Que Voy". The Salsa is a popular dance which originated in Cuba in the 1920s. Thank you to Josh Conga teaching artist, for working with our 5th graders!

WE'RE NOT SAYING GOODBYE!

PRIDE MONTH ASSEMBLY
We are excited to celebrate our first Pride Month at CMCS with a special assembly for all students on Thursday, June 5, 2025. The featured presenters, Pickle and friends, teach the wonders of Natural History with their special collaboration from the Natural History Museum of LA County: Natural HERstory, the musical drag show! They will engage students through dance, song, and music to explore concepts of transformation in the natural world, such as fossilization and metamorphosis. This 30-minute assembly is designed to promote messages of acceptance, inclusivity, and diversity in a fun and age-appropriate way.
We understand that families may have different preferences regarding participation. For this reason, we have prepared alternative Pride-themed activities for students who do not attend the assembly. These teacher-led sessions may include a book reading, educational video, and related follow-up activities, all tailored to be developmentally appropriate.
If you would prefer your child to take part in the alternative activity, please click here to let us know so we can plan accordingly.
Thank you for your continued support in fostering a respectful and inclusive school community.

    ROOFING PROJECT UPDATES

Room 25 is not part of this roofing project since that roof was recently installed.

Roofing for all buildings, except the auditorium, is complete. Work on the auditorium is scheduled for June 2-6.

Some buildings are awaiting gutter water tests. Deterioration around the arcades was found and will be repaired.

    AIR QUALITY MONITORS AT COMMUNITY!

The Project Manager at IQ Air has partnered with LAUSD on a pilot program to install Air Visual Pro air quality monitors at various school sites including Community Magnet Charter School! CMCS will be equipped with a minimum of two devices.

Installation has tentatively been scheduled to begin Monday, June 2, and continue through Thursday, June 5, although the bulk of these installations will happen on Monday and Tuesday. The installation team will be on-site daily between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM

    VALET RULES

For the SAFETY of your child and ALL children and parents at CMCS, if you are driving your child to school you MUST follow these valet rules.
      • Arrive at CMCS between 7:30 and 8:00
      • Enter through the gate on the EAST side of the school.
      • Drive along the left curb.  The right curb is a bus lane whether or not the buses have arrived.
      • Wait patiently in a single file line along the left curb of the driveway.
      • When a valet volunteer or LAUSD staff directs you, turn right at the parking lot and pull up to the Valet Curb.  There can be a maximum of 3 cars at the Valet Curb.
      • Under no circumstances can you park with your child and walk them through the parking lot. If, especially during these first weeks of school, you want to walk your child to the front gate, you MUST drop your child at the Valet Curb and then park your car.  Your child can wait for you near the valet volunteers on the bench by the Valet Curb.
      • When you arrive at the Valet Curb, your child should be ready to exit the car from the passenger side of the vehicle.  IF a passenger side exit from your vehicle is unavailable, your child must wait until a valet volunteer opens the driver side door and escorts them in front of your car onto the curb.
      • Under no circumstances should the driver exit the vehicle.
      • Do not pull around cars in the valet line including at the Valet Curb.  The line is single file from the east gate entrance  through to the west gate exit.  Please wait your turn to drop off your child and to exit campus.
      • FINALLY, be patient and kind.  The valet volunteers and LAUSD staff are there for the safety of your children.  Please treat them, the children, and the other drivers with respect.
