A Huge Shout-out to Our Incredible Community! ๐
Dear Community Families,
For the past two years, Community Magnet Charter School (CMCS) has proudly partnered with the Center for Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning. This esteemed non-profit organization is dedicated to equipping educators with the tools to effectively engage students from diverse backgrounds.
At the helm of this initiative is Dr. Sharroky Hollie, the Centerโs executive director and a nationally recognized advocate for culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices. With extensive experience as a university professor at California State University and as a visiting professor at institutions such as Webster University in St. Louis, as well as a guest lecturer at Stanford and UCLA, Dr. Hollie brings a wealth of knowledge to our school community.
Through this partnership, Dr. Hollie provides CMCS teachers with professional development in culturally responsive teaching strategies, observes these strategies in action within our classrooms, and offers valuable feedback and coaching to enhance the learning environment for all students.
One CMCS educator who has truly exemplified these practices is Cindy K., our dedicated Resource Specialist. Cindyโs unwavering commitment to her students has not gone unnoticedโher inspiring teaching methods caught the attention of Dr. Hollie himself! He recently featured her in one of his Outrageous Love podcasts, celebrating her impact in the classroom. We couldnโt be prouderโcongratulations, Cindy, on this well-deserved recognition!

Culturally Responsive Learning and Teaching (CRLT) is an educational approach that honors and integrates students' cultural backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to foster inclusive and effective learning environments. By weaving studentsโ cultural knowledge, traditions, languages, and identities into the teaching process, CRLT makes learning more meaningful and relevant for all.
Friday night was an unforgettable splash! Our Spring Dance, with its enchanting Under the Sea theme, was nothing short of magical. The decorations transformed the space into an oceanic wonderland, making it feel like we were dancing beneath the waves! DJ Adam kept the energy flowing like the tide, and the dance floor was alive with excitement.
Although I didnโt capture many photos, be sure to dive into our social media to relive the magic of the night! A tidal wave of appreciation goes out to our incredible dance co-chairs, Marlene W. (Ananda, Grade 1) and Karen B. (River, Gr. 2 & Rowan, Gr. 4), along with Bethany R. (Avery, Gr. 1 & Greyson, Gr. 4), Lynda A. (Matthias, Gr. 3), and the entire dance committee! You truly made a splashโthank you for bringing this underwater dream to life!
Wow! Community is truly an incredible placeโfrom our dedicated parents who work tirelessly to provide the best for their children and our school, to our outstanding educators who pour their hearts into supporting our students, and, of course, our wonderfully creative students who thrive in this warm and nurturing learning environment. We are so grateful to be part of such a special community within LAUSD!
See you on campus this week!
Best,
Toni

ARE YOU RETURNING FOR 2025-26?
- Arrive at CMCS between 7:30 and 8:00
- Enter through the gate on the EAST side of the school.
- Drive along the left curb. The right curb is a bus lane whether or not the buses have arrived.
- Wait patiently in a single file line along the left curb of the driveway.
- When a valet volunteer or LAUSD staff directs you, turn right at the parking lot and pull up to the Valet Curb. There can be a maximum of 3 cars at the Valet Curb.
- Under no circumstances can you park with your child and walk them through the parking lot. If, especially during these first weeks of school, you want to walk your child to the front gate, you MUST drop your child at the Valet Curb and then park your car. Your child can wait for you near the valet volunteers on the bench by the Valet Curb.
- When you arrive at the Valet Curb, your child should be ready to exit the car from the passenger side of the vehicle. IF a passenger side exit from your vehicle is unavailable, your child must wait until a valet volunteer opens the driver side door and escorts them in front of your car onto the curb.
- Under no circumstances should the driver exit the vehicle.
- Do not pull around cars in the valet line including at the Valet Curb. The line is single file from the east gate entrance through to the west gate exit. Please wait your turn to drop off your child and to exit campus.
- FINALLY, be patient and kind. The valet volunteers and LAUSD staff are there for the safety of your children. Please treat them, the children, and the other drivers with respect.
