Get Ready, Get Set, GO!!

 Hello Community Families,

I'm writing this week's blog a bit late as it's been a very busy weekend preparing for the coming week. By now, most families have picked up devices and materials and met their new teachers for the 2020-2021 school year. Thank you to everyone who joined me for the Parent Orientation on Wednesday. It was great to hear from our fabulous enrichment teachers about all they've planned for our students during distance learning. Our CFF Board members gave us an overview of their role in providing our students with the amazing programs and events that make Community such a special place. I'm confident that, despite our unusual circumstances, our families will come through with the support needed to enrich and enhance the Community experience for our students.

As we prepare for this unprecedented opening of schools, I'd like to remind you of what the week ahead will bring:

GET READY . . .

I am so excited to announce that a whopping 93% of families have registered for the Parent Portal so far! Our goal is to have 100% registration by August 18th. I know we'll make it! The Parent Portal will be a necessary tool in accessing important documents and information for and about your student! So, if you haven't registered, do it NOW!

On Monday, August 13, teachers return to school as they reconnect, engage in professional development, collaborate, plan, and prepare for the coming weeks of instruction.

GET SET . . .

Students return to school on Tuesday and Wednesday as they prepare for remote learning through a variety of independent activities intended to warm them up for the instruction ahead. I will welcome the community back to school on Tuesday, August 18th with my Principal's Welcome. Teachers will hold Meet & Greets with their students on Wednesday, August 19. Teachers will post their schedules and Zoom links in Schoology.

GO!

Thursday and Friday, August 20-21 are regular instructional days with school beginning at 9:00 a.m. for everyone. Attendance will absolutely count, so be sure that your student is on time and ready for learning. All students, except our newest enrollees, should have received a QR Code to make it easier to access the teachers' classes. Copy and paste this link into your browser to view a video on how to use the QR Code:   bit.ly/PLSQRCodeVideo

Please join us on Monday, August 24 for a school-wide Morning Assembly, 9:00am-9:20am, when I will review norms for remote learning and discuss this year's Toni Awards: Above & Beyond Club, Students of the Week, Toni's Treasures, and Kindness Counts.

I am sure that this school year will be the best it possibly can be. We have already had a very strong beginning. If you have any concerns, suggestions, or questions, remember that I am easily reached by email: trk2932@lausd.net.

Let's work together to make this a great year!!

Best,

Principal Toni
