May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month. We pay tribute to the many Asian and Pacific Islander Americans who have  contributed to the rich history of America and its future successes. Please join us on Thursday, May 20th, at 10:30 a.m. for a school-wide assembly featuring the Hitachi Japanese Kite Workshops 20th Anniversary Commemoration. Ordinarily, we would be honored with a special visit from the Japanese Kite Master himself, Mikio Toki, but due to restrictions related to the pandemic, he has been unable to make the trip for these past 2 years. However, we look forward to his return next year. For now, we can enjoy this wonderful commemoration together. Click here to join us for this virtual commemoration.

The Toni Awards Returns!!

COVID WATCH

COVID testing will take place at CMCS every Tuesday conducted by AMI Health team. Once you have provided signed consent, your student is set to be tested every week. All LAUSD employees are also tested on site.

Through the on-site COVID testing last week, Tuesday, May 11, 2021, there were 0 identified positive results for COVID. 

(Previous week, May 4, 2021 = 1 identified positive result)

The daily health check questions are asked of every individual visiting campus. Let's continue to work together to prevent COVID on our campus and to protect the students and staff who attend school every day. Please practice these healthy behaviors or avoid visiting campus or sending your student to school.



 

REMINDER: MONDAY EARLY OUT SCHEDULE

This is a reminder of the hybrid schedule on Mondays for the remainder of the school year. Note that buses will be operating on this early out schedule with CMCS departures at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.. Please adjust your schedules accordingly- you may expect your students to arrive at their bus stops about half an hour earlier for the 10:30 dismissal and approximately an hour earlier for the 2:00 dismissal. Teachers: please note the change in PM recess schedule.

8:00 - 10:30  - Cohort A instruction

  • Recesses: 
    • 9:10-9:30 for Grades K-1 
    • 9:35-9:55 for Grades 2-3
    • 10:00-10:20 for Grades 4-5

10:30 - 11:30  - LUNCH / Midday valet and bus departures and valet arrivals

11:30 - 2:00 - Cohort B Instruction

  • Recess: 1:10 - 1:30 for ALL Grades K-5

2:00 Dismissal with valet and bus departures

2:00 - 4:00  - Beyond the Bell supervision available to those who have applied and been accepted into the program.

2:00 - 3:00/3:30   -  Teacher Professional Development / Grade Level Planning and Collaboration

Here's your chance to recognize a dedicated staff member for their hard work!

  Back-to-School Night is next week! It will be a very busy night for parents as we introduce our teachers and our new CFF board members, check out the classrooms and textbooks, and learn what our students will be doing and learning this school year. Parents will be asked to sign up for committees and/or Room Parent positions. Community Council nominees will introduce themselves before ballot voting at each grade level. While this event will be a busy and exciting night for parents, that's not necessarily the case for the students! Since they do  not actively participate in this event, they will have an especially long day at school. For these reasons, we ask that you please plan to  make childcare arrangements away from campus. There will be no childcare or supervision available at Back-to-School night. IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Dear Community Families, Over the weekend, I was notified that Got Game Camp, our after-school program, would be taking a temporary pause in operation effective immediately. Coach K has contacted all affected families and he and his team are working around the clock to get the program back up and running as soon as possible. We wish them the best of luck in this endeavor and hope for their quick return. Got Game has been a very supportive partner to Community Magnet over the years and has proven time and time again to be a stable and reliable program. However, I understand that many of our families depend on consistent after-school care and are in immediate need of another option. I have been working throughout the weekend to ensure that there would be no interruption in after-school care at Community for those families. I appreciate the immediate response and support  from LAUSD Operations and Beyond the Bell  in helping to find an after-school program for Community as we wait for Got
