The Toni Awards Return!!

The Toni Awards will return on Friday, May 14th! Students will have the opportunity to view the program every Friday and it will also be posted at communitymagnet.org, under the From the Principal tab for parents.

UPDATES ON BEYOND the BELL SUPERVISION
We are making progress! As more supervision staff have become available, childcare cohorts have been reorganized so that they are consistent throughout the day. For example, if a cohort is together in the AM for instruction, that same cohort is maintained in the afternoon for supervision, most in their own classrooms as teachers travel home for PM online instruction. Five cohorts are mixed due to lack of available space and/or lack of supervision staff.  Remember that LAUSD guidelines allow for students to participate in two on-site cohorts in a day.

Beginning next week, we are expecting the following supervision to support our four AM and fifteen PM childcare cohorts:
  • Beyond the Bell: 2 AM coaches and 2 1/2 PM coaches
  • Boys & Girls Club, Venice: 6 AM/PM coaches
  • Got Game Camp: 5 PM coaches will begin on Monday
  • LAUSD Substitute teacher: 1 AM/PM

COVID WATCH

COVID testing will take place at CMCS every Tuesday conducted by AMI Health team. Once you have provided signed consent, your student is set to be tested every week. All LAUSD employees are also tested on site.

Through the on-site COVID testing last week, one individual tested positive for COVID. We tracked all students and staff who were in close contact with the individual and, out of an abundance of caution, put those students and staff under home quarantine for 14 days. The classroom has been closed and sanitized and our supervision staff has been reminded of COVID protocols.

The daily health check questions are asked of every individual visiting campus. Let's work together to prevent COVID on our campus and to protect the students and staff who attend school every day. Please practice these healthy behaviors or avoid visiting campus or sending your student to school.



 

REMINDER: MONDAY EARLY OUT SCHEDULE

This is a reminder of the hybrid schedule on Mondays for the remainder of the school year. Note that buses will be operating on this early out schedule with CMCS departures at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.. Please adjust your schedules accordingly- you may expect your students to arrive at their bus stops about half an hour earlier for the 10:30 dismissal and approximately an hour earlier for the 2:00 dismissal. Teachers: please note the change in PM recess schedule.

8:00 - 10:30  - Cohort A instruction

  • Recesses: 
    • 9:10-9:30 for Grades K-1 
    • 9:35-9:55 for Grades 2-3
    • 10:00-10:20 for Grades 4-5

10:30 - 11:30  - LUNCH / Midday valet and bus departures and valet arrivals

11:30 - 2:00 - Cohort B Instruction

  • Recess: 1:10 - 1:30 for ALL Grades K-5

2:00 Dismissal with valet and bus departures

2:00 - 4:00  - Beyond the Bell supervision available to those who have applied and been accepted into the program.

2:00 - 3:00/3:30   -  Teacher Professional Development / Grade Level Planning and Collaboration

  Back-to-School Night is next week! It will be a very busy night for parents as we introduce our teachers and our new CFF board members, check out the classrooms and textbooks, and learn what our students will be doing and learning this school year. Parents will be asked to sign up for committees and/or Room Parent positions. Community Council nominees will introduce themselves before ballot voting at each grade level. While this event will be a busy and exciting night for parents, that's not necessarily the case for the students! Since they do  not actively participate in this event, they will have an especially long day at school. For these reasons, we ask that you please plan to  make childcare arrangements away from campus. There will be no childcare or supervision available at Back-to-School night. IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Dear Community Families, Over the weekend, I was notified that Got Game Camp, our after-school program, would be taking a temporary pause in operation effective immediately. Coach K has contacted all affected families and he and his team are working around the clock to get the program back up and running as soon as possible. We wish them the best of luck in this endeavor and hope for their quick return. Got Game has been a very supportive partner to Community Magnet over the years and has proven time and time again to be a stable and reliable program. However, I understand that many of our families depend on consistent after-school care and are in immediate need of another option. I have been working throughout the weekend to ensure that there would be no interruption in after-school care at Community for those families. I appreciate the immediate response and support  from LAUSD Operations and Beyond the Bell  in helping to find an after-school program for Community as we wait for Got
