Important Things CMCS Parents Do: Beautification Day and School Experience Surveys!!

Good Evening Community Staff and Families,

I hope you had a very relaxing Sunday! I tried to take it easy this Sunday, though I had to catch up on a lot of chores around the house.

Parent Conferences and the Book Fair are in full swing: one week down and one more week to go. If you have not conferenced with your child's teacher whether during Invitational Conferences last month, or during these November conferences, it is mandatory that you do so. Parent participation and involvement is key in helping students reach their maximum potential and confidence levels.

PLEASE Complete the School Experience Survey ASAP
One of the MOST IMPORTANT responsibilities you have as a CMCS parent is to complete the annual School Experience Survey. The results of this survey help guide the decisions we make for our students, drive enrollment numbers, and most importantly, gives you the opportunity to give your feedback on the academic and social climate aspects of CMCS. Please make sure that you complete the survey ASAP so that you don't forget!  Click here to complete the survey now. It only takes about 15 minutes.  THANK YOU!!

OLD NEWS
Bronda Everett, APEIS, presented a workshop for parents on the topic of Dyslexia Awareness on Friday. Her presentation will be posted on the Fresh Schools and Community Magnet websites.  Thank you to all who attended!

Beautification Day was an overwhelmingly amazing event!! So many families came to help out and got so much done. People got deep into the bushes and were pulling weeds, raking, planting. Jeff Hardy led a group in repairing, building, cement pouring, pole planting, shed dismantling, etc. Celsa Garcia led a group in removing the PE equipment from the upper sheds and cleaning, organizing and neatly placing them in the lower sheds. Ana Park led a large group of parents in gardening projects all around the campus and rewarded us all with fresh basil, bok choy, swiss chard, and baby kale. Parents worked hard to fulfill teachers' wishlists and getting kindergarten and first grade iPads into carts and delivering them to classrooms. All the while, Rick, our custodian, helped EVERYONE with EVERYTHING and seemed to LOVE EVERY MINUTE. I think he gets very lonely working alone on campus every night and this gave him a chance to meet and TALK to whole lot of people! And Ben was out of control, as usual. He was everywhere doing everything. Without his help, the day would not have been as successful, nor as fun! Come check out the campus as soon as you get a chance. We will try to have another Community Day in the Spring because there is still so much to do! Thank you to everyone who gave up your Saturday to participate!

We broke for lunch at about 12:30 and the Town Hall Meeting began at 1:00. There were very few families left by then. I presented the "State of the School" and Stefania Willens, CFF Vice-President, presented CFF Updates. You may view the presentation on the Fresh Schools website.

I am behind in posting pictures in the Gallery. I have pictures from Halloween, a video of a student's amazing project I'd like to share with you, pictures of letter delivery to the fire department, and pics from Beautification Day. I will work on that during Thanksgiving Break--I promise!  But I DO want to share  . . .

THE CUTEST PICTURE I TOOK TODAY!

A Lesson in Building Trustworthy Community Citizens
Last week, I was saddened to hear that some students had stolen items from the book fair. But all that changed the next morning when a couple of parents brought their brave children in to the office to admit their mistakes, return the stolen items, and offer to make amends. This is how we learn, grow, and strengthen the character of our children. There was no need for shouting, spanking, humiliation, or tears. Just an honest conversation about what happened, what went wrong, why it was wrong, and how we can make it right. I want to thank those parents for being brave and for raising children who are able to learn from their mistakes rather than be stunted by them!

Book Fair News
“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” – Margaret Fuller

Our Fall Book Fair is off to a great start! School is abuzz with students excited to read their new books.

There is one week left to shop. The Fair is open this week until 1pm on Friday. Visit on your way to our Fall Festival (it will be closed after the Festival).

Pick up your child's next literary adventure, find the perfect gifts for those on your holiday gift list (even Book Buddy gifts) and expand your classroom library by purchasing a book from your Teacher's Wish Basket.

We'd appreciate it if you'd remind kids not to bring anything into the fair (backpacks, books, food and drinks) and to go straight to bus/valet at the end of the day.

Volunteer shifts are still available, sign up today on the FreshSchools calendar.

Stop by Friday’s assembly when we raffle signed Dog Man books.

Let's raise readers!
