Day 2: Continuity of Learning
Good afternoon Community Families,
Well, it's day 2 of this crazy, unbelievable social distancing and it seems it will be the norm for the unforeseeable future. I received the very sad and extremely disappointing news that my daughter's college graduation, scheduled for mid-May, will not take place as scheduled. The CDC has set new guidelines that call for cancelling or postponing all large gatherings for at least the next 8 weeks. Despite the frustration and uncertainty that we're all feeling, Day 2 went very well for teaching and learning long distance!
Each grade level team is working collaboratively to provide solid and consistent learning activities for their students.
Fourth grade teachers used Zoom to teach language arts, math, and social science to their students today. Here you see Tracy teaching Geometry to her students, and Paul connecting with his students.
And here is a photo of Tracy R. and her 1st grade students reconnecting for the first time using Zoom. (I have a very cute video of this, but I have to figure out how to get it on this page-so stay tuned.) Once the students had a chance to "mingle" with their classmates, Tracy worked on RULER's Mood Meter and Morning Calendar Work which involved lots of Math. She said she realizes she needs to set up some Zoom rules for her students: no siblings photobombing during the lesson, no pets taking over the screen, and no unmuting once they've been muted! 🤣
I hope to have more pics tomorrow as teachers get more comfortable with the platforms they're using.
Our Resource Specialist, Cindy, will also be providing lessons to small groups. If your child is one of her students, be sure to look out for an email invitation from her.

That's it for today. Enjoy your evening and I'll see you back here tomorrow!

Gabriella is doing a wonderful job. She has done a lot of preparation, (maybe collaborating with Chai and Sebastian?) creating slides detailing the schedule for the day, the work to be done during the "school day" and the homework. Other than a little technical difficulty on our end today (dicey internet connection), I feel like it is going as smoothly as one might expect on day two!
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting me know. I'm glad it's all working out-we're trying !
