LAST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS IS FRIDAY, JUNE 11

REMINDER: MONDAY EARLY OUT SCHEDULE

This is a reminder of the hybrid schedule on Mondays for the remainder of the school year. Note that buses will be operating on this early out schedule with CMCS departures at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.. Please adjust your schedules accordingly- you may expect your students to arrive at their bus stops about half an hour earlier for the 10:30 dismissal and approximately an hour earlier for the 2:00 dismissal. Teachers: please note the change in PM recess schedule.

8:00 - 10:30  - Cohort A instruction

  • Recesses: 
    • 9:10-9:30 for Grades K-1 
    • 9:35-9:55 for Grades 2-3
    • 10:00-10:20 for Grades 4-5

10:30 - 11:30  - LUNCH / Midday valet and bus departures and valet arrivals

11:30 - 2:00 - Cohort B Instruction

  • Recess: 1:10 - 1:30 for ALL Grades K-5

2:00 Dismissal with valet and bus departures

2:00 - 4:00  - Beyond the Bell supervision available to those who have applied and been accepted into the program.

2:00 - 3:00/3:30   -  Teacher Professional Development / Grade Level Planning and Collaboration

This week's Toni Awards will be presented on Monday, June 7.  Please click here to attend the webinar at 8:15 a.m. to recognize our Students-of-the-Week and Staff Spotlights. The presentation will also be posted at communitymagnet.org, under the From the Principal tab and recorded for teachers to view with their students.
In Remembrance of Martha

Please vote here for naming the CMCS auditorium Martha Melinda Auditorium in honor of Martha. In addition to dedicating the auditorium in her name, we will also be placing a rock in Lulu's Garden behind the Magnet Office with Martha's name, installing a plaque on the outside auditorium wall, and bringing members of the final Annie cast together to sing a song in her honor. 

GOT GAME SUMMER CAMP IS BACK!!!  

The Got Game Camp has the go-ahead and is BACK this summer in Mid-City for their 10th year! Registration is now open and space is very limited, so sign up today!

COVID WATCH

The final COVID testing of the school year will take place at CMCS on Tuesday, June 8 conducted by AMI Health team. 

Through the on-site COVID testing last week, Tuesday, June 1, 2021, there were 0 identified positive results for COVID. 


     CMCS Summer Time Play Dates are Back!!


Summer playdates are a fun tradition at CMCS. It's a time to meet new families, re-connect with old friends, and for new families to get acquainted with our school community. Save these dates!           Specific locations to be determined.

  ENRICHMENT BLOCKS BEGIN THIS WEEK! Dear Community Families, WHEW!! What a week! It was an exciting one and we're so happy to have students back on campus. We now have a week under our belts- students know where their classrooms are, who their teachers are, and their bus assignments. Teachers have taught classroom systems and procedures, and we've taught our expectations for behavior during behavior assemblies.  On Thursday, we practiced our first fire and earthquake drills of the year. We learned how to evacuate quickly and quietly to the upper yard and how to drop, cover, and hold in the classroom. We held our first Morning Assembly on Friday. Each week, teachers select one student to be recognized as the Student-of-the-Week at the Morning Assembly. These students receive certificates to acknowledge their achievement and are invited to select a prize from the Treasure Box. Staff members issue Kindness Counts coupons are given to students who show kindness and good citizenshi

It's the First Day of School!

  Dear Community Families, The first day of school is here! There will be a lot happening at school this week to kick off the new year.  All parents are welcome to join us for a Meet & Greet after walking your student to their classroom on the first day of school. CFF will provide light refreshments as you meet and mingle with other parents and CMCS staff. Meet us on the Room 1 yard at 8:10am. Our Beginning-of-Year Assessment windows open this week so your child will be taking diagnostic tests in reading (DIBELS for Gr. K-2 / iReady for Gr. 3-5) and math (iReady for all grade levels). Teachers will use these results to determine classroom small group instruction, after-school intervention groups, advanced math groups, and tutoring groups. As of last school year, LAUSD requires students to complete 30-45 minutes of iReady Personalized Learning per week. Welcome to the 2024-25 School Year

  Dear Community Families, Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Community Magnet Charter School! This summer flew by quickly, but I hope you enjoyed time with your families and friends. I am very happy to have spent a week visiting Toronto with my family. It just so happened that we were there for Canada Day (similar to our Fourth of July) and the Toronto Jazz Festival! In addition to spectacular fireworks, top-notch dining, and wonderful jazz music, we witnessed the awesomeness of the beautiful Niagara Falls. It was a fun-packed week and I left with a special place in my heart for Toronto! Speaking of fun-packed, Community was buzzing with fun for most of the summer. We hosted the Kids 4 College Summer Camp, Camp Invention, BSAP Summer Bridging Program and Kinder Camp! This week will be even busier, but without the kids and not so fun.
