Principals for the Day
Principal Landon and Principal Mallory were busy, busy, busy performing principal duties this past Friday! Their first acts as principals were to add 3 minutes to each recess and to decree Pajama Day for all students and staff.
Their first task of the day was to visit each classroom with Phyllis and Kathryn to take Pajama Day photos for the yearbook. Duringrecess duty, Principals Mallory and Landon delegated tasks to Andrew and were very impressed with how well he got the job done. Then, it was back to the office to assist Lalita and Maria with a few office duties.
Before long, it was time for lunch. Principals Mallory and Landon invited pals, Vivienne and Kameron, for a delicious lunch of cheese and pepperoni pizzas as they read Kindness Counts and Toni's Treasures coupons with Toni. We were all amazed at how kind theCommunity students can be! We ended lunch by sharing delicious vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with the office staff.
Principals Landon and Mallory were so impressed with how hard our school's teachers and staff work that they wanted to negotiate a big fat raise for EVERYONE! Unfortunately, raises were not in the budget. But, in the end, we settled on raises for Maria, Andrew, Paul, and Jackie. Principals Mallory and Landon even hand-delivered the $4 checks!

QUAKE!!
At about 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, CMCS students and staff heard the first rumblings of a magnitude 7.2 earthquake followed seconds later by an aftershock. Everyone dropped, covered, and held on until all shaking ceased. Emergency teams immediately secured the campus and shut off gas lines. Other teams unloaded emergency supplies and equipment from the emergency bin on the upper yard. Teachers and TAs grabbed emergency backpacks and quickly guided students to line up quietly and evacuate to the upper yard. Once all students and staff had been accounted for, Search & Rescue teams went into action. Search teams found four injured students in various locations around campus. Rescue teams carried these students to safety on the upper yard where our Triage teams provided medical and psychological first aid. Request and Reunion teams worked with student council runners to reunite a couple of parents with their students. During the entire drill, which lasted about 45 minutes, the Assembly Area team and other staff supervised students who remained quiet and calm. During the Spring district-wide emergency drill, we will practice a campus lockdown.
