CMCS Mission and Vision

"In a perfect world, human  beings would co-exist harmoniously, like a rainbow. A multitude of colors, each layer vibrant and clear by itself,             but in unison, boundless, breathtaking, celestial."

These Skin Color Rainbows, created by Tracy's students in Rm. 10, perfectly illustrate our school's newly revised mission and vision.

CMCS MISSION

We are a diverse school community, committed to providing a safe space where no child is hurt- mind, body, or soul. We develop the character and full learning potential of all students through cooperation among all stakeholders -- students, teachers, administrators, parents, and support staff. CMCS emphasizes the study of humanities and the social sciences through a multicultural perspective. At Community Magnet Charter School, we are committed to supporting anti-racism, religious acceptance, gender equity, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and nuerodivergent students.

CMCS VISION

Community Magnet Charter School strives to create kind, empowered, confident, and responsible young people whose self-esteem, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills prepare them for success in the ever-changing global community. Community Magnet Charter School provides a secure and caring environment, which fosters creativity, mutual respect, and a lifelong love of learning.

ANTIGEN TESTS FOR RETURN FROM SPRING BREAK

5th  Grade Families,                           You are cordially invited to attend the

TeaTime with Toni

Thursday, April 21
4:00 p.m.

Special guest, Dr. Steve Lee, will discuss the impact COVID-19 has had on our students.

COVID-19's impact on students is a topic of major interest for parents and educators all over the world. Now that we've returned to in-person instruction, we see the evidence of its impact on student behavior and achievement. Many students are exhibiting increased anger and aggression. Teachers and staff are noticing the lack of kindness, respect, and empathy shown to peers as well as a lack of social maturity. Parents are reporting increased anxiety and depression at home. We all have questions about how to best support our students as we slowly return to "normal".

If you are interested in how COVID-19 has impacted our children's social-emotional well-being, mental health, and academic progress, please be sure to join us.

Please submit any questions or concerns you have on this topic here so that we may be sure to address them at Tea Time.

We look forward to seeing you on April 21st!

Dr. Steve Lee is currently a professor and director of Clinical Psychology Training at UCLA, Associate Editor of Clinical Psychological Science, and past president of the Society for Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (SCCAP).

MASKING IS NO LONGER REQUIRED

Los Angeles Unified is pleased to announce that we have reached agreement with labor groups to align with the guidance from the State of California and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to make masking strongly recommended at all elementary, secondary and adult school campuses and in all non-school locations.

READY TO VOLUNTEER?

We are so excited to invite our parent volunteers back to campus! We have numerous applications to approve, but most are missing the TB clearance requirement. If you have applied to be a Tier II volunteer working on campus in classrooms, office, or chaperoning field trips, you must complete the online application, provide evidence of TB clearance, and complete a Volunteer Commitment Form. If you have turned in an application, but you're not sure if it is complete, please email me (trk2932@lausd.net) or Kathryn (kxm2679@lausd.net). Also, please be aware that volunteer applications must be updated each year.

VALET ETIQUETTE AND GUIDELINES

As you know, we teach our students to always BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE, AND BE TRUSTWORTHY! Sometimes, we as adults, need gentle reminders, too!

Here is a very important reminder about Valet Safety. Please read and heed:

It is imperative that everyone follow proper procedure with regard to the valet service. It has come to our attention that parents are walking students from the school to cars parked in the visitor’s lot and walking with students between the parked buses. For the safety of ALL students, please abide by the following rules both in the morning (7:30-8:15) and afternoon (2:15-3:00):

1. DO NOT enter through the exit gate. Enter only through the east gate.
2. Children are NOT allowed in the parking lot during the carpool hours (7:30am-8:15am and 2:15pm-3:00pm).
3. ALL students should load and unload at the curbside only. In the morning, please drop your student at the valet curb, and then park in the visitor’s lot if you are staying on campus. If you are parked in the school lot in the afternoon, your student must wait at valet for you to pull your car around. You do not have to go to the end of the valet line; simply pull around to the valet curb. The valet attendant will direct you.
4. NEVER walk a student between the parked buses! The valet attendant will cross you and your student to the other side if your car is parked on the street.
5. NEVER leave your car unattended in the valet line.
6. DO NOT try to drive between the buses and the line of valet cars.
7. Be patient when using the valet service.
8. Drive SLOWLY on school grounds.

Also, every valet parent was supplied with a paper placard with your child's name. It would help so much if every valet parent would display this placard in the windshield at pm pick up. If you need a placard, just let us know. We appreciate your cooperation!

Please, let’s all remember that even if you are in a rush, it’s important to be civil and courteous…our kids are watching!
