Fall Celebrations at CMCS

Happy Sunday, Community Families,

Thursday, September 22, marks the first day of fall for 2022. The Fall season brings the first traditional celebrations of the school year to CMCS. We first look forward to observing Latino Heritage Month with a school-wide assembly and grade level presentations. Soon after, we kick off our annual Parade of Masks! This SUPER-FUN celebration includes a Halloween Parade, treats, food, and fun activities. Our annual Winter Program, which showcases our diverse traditions during the holiday season, wraps up the fall season and first semester. We are counting on everyone participating in all of these events together, in-person, as one Community this year! We hope you join us for the celebrations!!

EARTHQUAKE KITS ARE DUE!

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please send in your child's emergency earthquake kits as soon as possible.  We are preparing for the upcoming annual Great ShakeOut, and would like to make sure that all students have an earthquake kit on campus. Click here to go to our school website's "Documents and Forms" page where you will find the Earthquake Kit Letter.

WEST VALLEY COUNSELING CENTER

Welcome to Arpi Z. from West Valley Counseling Center! Arpi works on-site every Monday and Wednesday and is already working with a full caseload of students and has a growing waitlist. We are so excited to work with Arpi this year and to have the support of WVCC !

Arpi Zargarian earned her B.A. in Psychology from California State University, Northridge. She is currently pursuing her M.A in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University. Her prior experience includes working with children, adults, and families, where she honed her therapeutic and counseling abilities. Arpi stressed the implementation of empathy and compassion in her work with diverse populations in order to establish a secure and supportive atmosphere for her clients to flourish. She employs a number of therapeutic approaches as part of an integrated framework to assist clients in leading healthier, more satisfying lives by fostering positive, long-lasting relationships.

Six-Week Invitational Conferences
September 19-23

Six weeks already?? Yes, our six-week invitational conferences are coming soon! These conferences are by invitation for Grades 1-5, mandatory for kindergarten, and are in addition to the district's regularly scheduled parent conferences in November and March. This is an opportunity for teachers and parents to communicate early concerns regarding student academics, behavior, or social-emotional well-being. It also allows us to begin early interventions for students struggling with either of these issues. Your teacher may want to discuss your child's participation in after-school tutoring, counseling through West Valley Counseling Center, or strategies to improve behavior.

SEPTEMBER 21-23

5th graders are looking forward to a fun, action packed 3 days and 2 nights in Idyllwild. AstroCamp is a 5th grade perk where students  learn about science, build life-long memories, and strengthen bonds with their peers. After a two year hiatus, we are excited to sponsor this opportunity for our students. Click here to learn more about this program.

TeaTime with Toni

Join us on Thursday, September 22 for a virtual TeaTime with Toni. We will present/discuss our School-Wide Positive Behavior and Intervention Support (SWPBIS) plan and how we use restorative justice practices and RULER to support student social-emotional well-being.

Click here to join the meeting at 4:00 p.m.

AFTER-SCHOOL CARE

We are still hoping to find two wonderful people to run our after-school program through Beyond the Bell. If you know anyone who may be interested, please have them call our office or email me at trk2932@lausd.net. We count on our parents for a lot, and we're here again asking for your support in this. I have exhausted all of my options.   AND, we also still need TAs!
