            There will be no school on Monday, September 26th.              Happy Rosh Hashanah to all who celebrate! 


Fifth grade students, teachers, and parent chaperones enjoyed three days and two nights at AstroCamp this past week. Kirsten said, "It was amazing to be back at AstroCamp after being away for two years! The 5th graders did a bunch of cool science, saw tons of stars, and had a lot of fun." Teachers reported that the weather was beautiful and the kids had a great time. All agreed that it was a great trip. A huge THANK YOU to Kathryn for organizing this amazing trip, 5th grade teachers for keeping our students engaged and safe, and parent chaperones for helping ensure this trip went off without a hitch!!

SAFETY ON THE PLAYGROUND APPARATUS

Yikes! We've had three broken arms so far this year- all first graders who were playing on the upper yard monkey bars. For safety reasons, first graders will not play on the apparatus until January. By then, we hope they'll be a little taller and a little stronger. We'll see!



EARTHQUAKE KITS ARE DUE!

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please send in your child's emergency earthquake kits as soon as possible.  We are preparing for the upcoming annual Great ShakeOut, and would like to make sure that all students have an earthquake kit on campus. Click here to go to our school website's "Documents and Forms" page where you will find the Earthquake Kit Letter.

We are still hoping to find two wonderful people to run our after-school program through Beyond the Bell. If you know anyone who may be interested, please have them call our office or email me at trk2932@lausd.net. We count on our parents for a lot, and we're here again asking for your support in this. I have exhausted all of my options.   AND, we also still need TAs!

This support is available to all elementary and span K-8 LAUSD students at no cost to families in multiple languages.   Back-to-School Night is next week! It will be a very busy night for parents as we introduce our teachers and our new CFF board members, check out the classrooms and textbooks, and learn what our students will be doing and learning this school year. Parents will be asked to sign up for committees and/or Room Parent positions. Community Council nominees will introduce themselves before ballot voting at each grade level. While this event will be a busy and exciting night for parents, that's not necessarily the case for the students! Since they do  not actively participate in this event, they will have an especially long day at school. For these reasons, we ask that you please plan to  make childcare arrangements away from campus. There will be no childcare or supervision available at Back-to-School night. IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Dear Community Families, Over the weekend, I was notified that Got Game Camp, our after-school program, would be taking a temporary pause in operation effective immediately. Coach K has contacted all affected families and he and his team are working around the clock to get the program back up and running as soon as possible. We wish them the best of luck in this endeavor and hope for their quick return. Got Game has been a very supportive partner to Community Magnet over the years and has proven time and time again to be a stable and reliable program. However, I understand that many of our families depend on consistent after-school care and are in immediate need of another option. I have been working throughout the weekend to ensure that there would be no interruption in after-school care at Community for those families. I appreciate the immediate response and support  from LAUSD Operations and Beyond the Bell  in helping to find an after-school program for Community as we wait for Got
