CONGA KIDS BALLROOM DANCING PRESENTATION
Our 5th grade students and their parents had a "ball" showing off their dance skills on Friday! Led by Conga teacher, Emily C., the students put on a fabulous and thoroughly entertaining show. Afterwards, parents joined in the fun. Check out some of the pics below.

Thanks to our community, our Spring Scholastic Book Fair was a HUGE success!!!  With your purchases we raised over $10,000 for Sarah Lilly to buy more books for our library shelves. 

During the fair, it was so special to roll out the red carpet for our Grandparents.  They were thrilled to choose books with their grandchildren and foster their love of reading.

We'd also like to thank parents and a few students who volunteered at the fair, we couldn't have done it without you:

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT PARENT VOLUNTEERS

We LOVE our parent volunteers because they do SO MUCH for our students! The Annual Read-a-thon, Sweethearts Dance, the heritage assemblies, the Book Fair, and helping teachers in the classrooms, chaperoning field trips, and valet . . . it all matters a lot and we are all grateful for your strong support! As we readjust to having volunteers back on campus, we must remind you of the following:

1) Once you have opened an online volunteer application, you have 30 days to complete the process: submit your parent commitment form, TB test clearance (within 4 years), and fingerprinting for one-on-one tutors and overnight field trip chaperones. If you plan to volunteer on campus, you must upload your COVID vaccination card to dailypass.lausd.net to be approved by LAUSD's Community Engagement. 

All incomplete applications created before February 10, 2023 have been declined. If your application was declined, you are welcome to reapply once you are ready to submit the required documents.

2) You may volunteer on campus only after your application and COVID vaccine card have been received, reviewed, and approved by Community Engagement. You will be notified by Parent and Community Services once you are approved.





Community Magnet is not a host school for the Acceleration Days. Our students will be assigned to Fairburn ES. Need your student in a school closer to home for Acceleration Days? Stay tuned for more information on this from the district soon!

 LAUSD/SCHOOL POLICY ON ELECTRONIC DEVICES AT SCHOOL

CELLULAR TELEPHONES AND OTHER MOBILE DEVICES It is the policy of LA Unified to prohibit the use of cellular phones or any electronic mobile device by students on campus during normal school hours. Students are permitted to possess cellular phones, or other electronic mobile devices such as cameras, electronic games, radios, MP3 players, computing devices, tablets, etc. on campus, provided that any such device shall remain turned off and stored in a locker, backpack, purse, pocket, or other places where it is not visible during normal school hours. Students are permitted to use cellular phones or other electronic mobile devices on campus, before and after school or during school activities that occur outside of school hours. For LA Unified, state, and national assessments, students are prohibited to access any unauthorized electronic devices at any time during the entire testing session. Students must comply any time a request is made by school personnel to cease the use of a cellular phone and/or other electronic mobile device even before or after school. Schools may adopt more stringent cellular phone policies through the School Site Council. Cellular phone use on the school bus is for emergency purposes only; driver authorization is required. For more information, you may call Transportation Services at (800) 522-8737. LA Unified is not responsible for lost or stolen cellular phones or other electronic mobile devices.

If a student is found using and/or displaying a cell phone, it will be taken away to be returned to a parent upon request.

You may find this information in the Parent-Student Handbook  (page 6) which is posted on our school website under the Resources tab. A hard copy of the handbook should have been sent home by the teacher. If not, please let me know.   ENRICHMENT BLOCKS BEGIN THIS WEEK! Dear Community Families, WHEW!! What a week! It was an exciting one and we're so happy to have students back on campus. We now have a week under our belts- students know where their classrooms are, who their teachers are, and their bus assignments. Teachers have taught classroom systems and procedures, and we've taught our expectations for behavior during behavior assemblies.  On Thursday, we practiced our first fire and earthquake drills of the year. We learned how to evacuate quickly and quietly to the upper yard and how to drop, cover, and hold in the classroom. We held our first Morning Assembly on Friday. Each week, teachers select one student to be recognized as the Student-of-the-Week at the Morning Assembly. These students receive certificates to acknowledge their achievement and are invited to select a prize from the Treasure Box. Staff members issue Kindness Counts coupons are given to students who show kindness and good citizenshi

It's the First Day of School!

  Dear Community Families, The first day of school is here! There will be a lot happening at school this week to kick off the new year.  All parents are welcome to join us for a Meet & Greet after walking your student to their classroom on the first day of school. CFF will provide light refreshments as you meet and mingle with other parents and CMCS staff. Meet us on the Room 1 yard at 8:10am. Our Beginning-of-Year Assessment windows open this week so your child will be taking diagnostic tests in reading (DIBELS for Gr. K-2 / iReady for Gr. 3-5) and math (iReady for all grade levels). Teachers will use these results to determine classroom small group instruction, after-school intervention groups, advanced math groups, and tutoring groups. As of last school year, LAUSD requires students to complete 30-45 minutes of iReady Personalized Learning per week. Welcome to the 2024-25 School Year

  Dear Community Families, Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Community Magnet Charter School! This summer flew by quickly, but I hope you enjoyed time with your families and friends. I am very happy to have spent a week visiting Toronto with my family. It just so happened that we were there for Canada Day (similar to our Fourth of July) and the Toronto Jazz Festival! In addition to spectacular fireworks, top-notch dining, and wonderful jazz music, we witnessed the awesomeness of the beautiful Niagara Falls. It was a fun-packed week and I left with a special place in my heart for Toronto! Speaking of fun-packed, Community was buzzing with fun for most of the summer. We hosted the Kids 4 College Summer Camp, Camp Invention, BSAP Summer Bridging Program and Kinder Camp! This week will be even busier, but without the kids and not so fun. Albert and Rick will complete the final campus cleaning. Office staff will finalize classroom assignments (to be completed by August 8th) and enroll
