WINTER RAIN STORM UPDATE
WINTER RAIN STORM UPDATE
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 5th: School and after-school programs will be in session. Please stay tuned for updates.
Dear Los Angeles Unified Family,
In preparation for the storm that is expected to impact Southern California, the National Weather Service predicts a growing potential for many hours of moderate to heavy rainfall from Sunday through Tuesday with the storm peaking on Sunday night. Winds are also expected which may cause downed power lines and impassable roads.
Los Angeles Unified has engaged in several precautions to ensure the safety of students, families and employees.
SCHOOL CAMPUS SAFETY
All schools have been instructed to review their comprehensive safety plans and emergency protocols, and have communicated with their school communities. Our maintenance and operations teams have prepared school campuses with preventative work and supplies to minimize debris and the potential impact of flooding. Our on-site maintenance team will arrive early to determine any impact to school sites on Monday.
STUDENT TRANSPORTATION
There are currently no changes with school bus schedules. We anticipate possible route delays. Families of impacted routes will be notified by the Transportation Services Division in the event of a delay on Monday morning.
SCHOOL UPDATES
Stay tuned for updates on LAUSD.org, on social media @LASchools, on KLCS-TV, on news outlets and messages directly from your principal. If families and students need additional help, please contact our Family Hotline at (213) 443-1300.
The safety of our students, employees and school communities remains our top priority. As a reminder, please allow extra time for your commute and use extreme caution when driving to schools and offices. Please also note alternative routes in case of downed power lines and flooding. Stay clear from rushing water and rivers and do not walk or drive through flooded areas. Children should never walk through or play in riverbeds and flood channels.
We are also collaborating with the City of Los Angeles and all other emergency personnel organizations to ensure the safety of everyone in our school communities. The following are city resources:

VALET RULES
- Arrive at CMCS between 7:30 and 8:00
- Enter through the gate on the EAST side of the school.
- Drive along the left curb. The right curb is a bus lane whether or not the buses have arrived.
- Wait patiently in a single file line along the left curb of the driveway.
- When a valet volunteer or LAUSD staff directs you, turn right at the parking lot and pull up to the Valet Curb. There can be a maximum of 3 cars at the Valet Curb.
- Under no circumstances can you park with your child and walk them through the parking lot. If, especially during these first weeks of school, you want to walk your child to the front gate, you MUST drop your child at the Valet Curb and then park your car. Your child can wait for you near the valet volunteers on the bench by the Valet Curb.
- When you arrive at the Valet Curb, your child should be ready to exit the car from the passenger side of the vehicle. IF a passenger side exit from your vehicle is unavailable, your child must wait until a valet volunteer opens the driver side door and escorts them in front of your car onto the curb.
- Under no circumstances should the driver exit the vehicle.
- Do not pull around cars in the valet line including at the Valet Curb. The line is single file from the east gate entrance through to the west gate exit. Please wait your turn to drop off your child and to exit campus.
- FINALLY, be patient and kind. The valet volunteers and LAUSD staff are there for the safety of your children. Please treat them, the children, and the other drivers with respect.
