Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!

Dear Community Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! I hope you’ve enjoyed a safe and relaxing summer and are looking forward to reconnecting with your Community friends, classmates, and teachers. The first day of school will be Tuesday, August 18, 2020. As we begin with distance learning, we acknowledge that this year will be challenging. However, I remain confident that we will continue to achieve high levels of academic success with rigorous and engaging instruction at every grade level and strengthen our community with regular opportunities for collaboration and communication.

Our Morning Character assemblies will resume this year with a few tweaks for our virtual gathering. We will focus on being safe, respectful, responsible, and trustworthy citizens in productive virtual classroom and school-wide settings. We will also celebrate and emphasize the importance of diversity, inclusiveness, and multiculturalism in our school and in the larger communities.

Please plan to join us for a virtual Parent Orientation on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 via Zoom between 1:00-4:00. I will send the Zoom invitation by email, so be on the lookout and save the date!!

I will give school and district updates and an overview of our plan for distance learning, introduce our enrichment teachers and CFF members, and facilitate training on the Parent Portal. Registration on the Parent Portal is very important this year as you will need it in order to access your child’s classroom assignment, report cards, test scores, attendance, and instructional on-line tools and apps.  Be sure to also update your contact information, if necessary, so that you don't miss out on any important information.

The schedule for the collection and distribution of supplies, books, and devices has been emailed to all families and can also be viewed on our website at communitymagnet.org. Please check the website daily for updates, important information, and highlights. If your child is in need of a device, you may request one at device.lausd.net, using the access code: LAUSD2020.

Teachers will meet with their new students and parents on Monday, August 17th to introduce themselves and to ensure that every student is prepared to jump into learning on the first day of school.

We are counting on our parents and community to provide the support and partnership that will be necessary for a successful school year. We love our students, respect our parents, and look forward to making the most of the unique opportunities for learning and growth that the year will bring. We are in this together!

Sincerely,

Principal Toni
