Celebrating October!

Happy October!

October is one of the longest months with no school breaks, so Halloween comes as a welcome end-of-the month celebration with its tricks, treats, crazy costumes, and all out fun! While this Halloween will be candy-free for me (gotta lose these COVID pounds), I'm looking forward to the events planned for this month. I'm excited for the Hispanic Heritage Month presentations our 4th and 2nd graders have prepared, I can't wait to be entertained by the award-winning Jose-Luis Orozco, and I am thrilled that our families will celebrate Halloween together with the Parade of Masks Car Parades.

Yes! Let's get this October started!

Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations

This month, we celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic Americans. Be sure to join us for the Monday Mor
ning Messages on October 5th and 12th as our 4th and 2nd grade students proudly honor Hispanic Americans and the contributions they've made to our society.

Make sure you don't miss a very special presentation by bilingual educator, award-winning recording artist and children's author, Jose-Luis Orozco! This year, he celebrates 50 years promoting Latin American culture through his music, stories, and performances. Jose-Luis Orozco's half-hour presentation begins at 10:30 a.m.. Parade of Masks Car Parades

Message from CFF:

CMCS is planning Halloween car parades on the upper yard for our October distribution days with sweet treats for our students!  Over the next couple weeks, we'll be sharing details and asking for donations/loans of the following items to help decorate the upper yard:

  • Giant spiders
  • Tombstones (the bigger the better)
  • Skeletons (2D is probably best - for hanging in our spooky tunnel)
  • Crows
  • Scarecrow
  • Pumpkins (a donation from a grocery store or farmers' market or plastic, felt, poster board, papier-mâché, plastic, etc.)
  • Hay bales
  • Black cats, owls, bats
  • Día de los Muertos themed items
You can start gathering items now! We'll have more details soon about how to get us your items and what else is needed!

*Please no items that require electricity! CMCS is in a fire hazard zone and we want to ensure the safety of all involved. Families will be expected to stay in their car at all times. Please do not bring anything else/other treats to distribute as only items from the school will be distributed at the event.

Student Attendance and Engagement

After concerns last spring of low student attendance and engagement, LAUSD made a concerted effort to increase attendance and engagement of all students. LAUSD now tracks student engagement through Schoology and attendance through MISIS.

Here is the engagement and attendance data for CMCS for the week of September 21st:

Schoology Login rate:        82%- a 0.9% increase from the previous week
Zoom Login rate:             56%- a 12% increase from the previous week

Please contact the office or speak to your teacher if your child is having trouble logging in to Zoom through Schoology.

Student Attendance rate:     99%- a 0.2% increase from the previous week
Teacher Attendance Submittal rate:     100% (as usual)

Congratulations to our hardworking students and parents for the extraordinary attendance rate and to our meticulous teachers and office staff (Edith) for the unbeatable attendance submittal rate!

I'll see you in the morning!

Best,

Comments

  1. My girls don't usually get to their Zooms through Schoology, they go directly to Zoom because Margot's meeting ID is saved there - are they causing an underreporting of attendance by doing it this way?
