School Re-opening Survey

Thank you for those of you who joined me for TeaTime with Toni this past Thursday. As of Friday morning, only 34% of families had completed the survey with 1/3 opting for online instruction only and 2/3 opting for the hybrid model. Today is the last day to submit your choice. Here is the link: https://reopening.lausd.net/familyselection.

Remember, if you do not complete the survey, the hybrid model will be selected for you as the default. 

Distribution Days

December distribution days are scheduled for this Thursday and Friday, December 10-11. In addition to the materials that teachers are sending home, you will receive the Parent Handbook and guide, and a Book Pack for extra reading at home during the break. If you have students in separate classes and would like to make one trip, that is fine. You may choose which of the scheduled pick-up times to attend and we will have all materials ready.

In an effort to keep everyone as safe as possible from the transmission of the Corona Virus during distribution, we ask that you place any items to be returned and allow us to place distributed materials in the trunk of your cars rather than exchanging them through open car windows. Please do not forget to wear masks.

School Experience Surveys

To date, only 46% of parents have completed the School Experience Survey. It is very important that you take a few minutes to compete the survey so that we know which areas are in need of improvement at our school.  Each year, all staff, parents, and 4th-5th grade students are asked to complete the survey. It provides us with satisfaction rates in the areas of instruction, social-emotional learning, and safety from all perspectives. We are aiming for 100% participation from all stakeholder groups. If you have not yet completed the survey, here are directions:

As we move closer to the Winter Break, I hope that you remain vigilant in our fight against the Coronavirus. Please remember to wear masks, practice social distancing, wash your hands frequently, and stay at home when possible. These measures will not only keep us all safe, but will help to ensure that we will come together, in good health, when we return to campus sometime in 2021.   Back-to-School Night is next week! It will be a very busy night for parents as we introduce our teachers and our new CFF board members, check out the classrooms and textbooks, and learn what our students will be doing and learning this school year. Parents will be asked to sign up for committees and/or Room Parent positions. Community Council nominees will introduce themselves before ballot voting at each grade level. While this event will be a busy and exciting night for parents, that's not necessarily the case for the students! Since they do  not actively participate in this event, they will have an especially long day at school. For these reasons, we ask that you please plan to  make childcare arrangements away from campus. There will be no childcare or supervision available at Back-to-School night. IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Dear Community Families, Over the weekend, I was notified that Got Game Camp, our after-school program, would be taking a temporary pause in operation effective immediately. Coach K has contacted all affected families and he and his team are working around the clock to get the program back up and running as soon as possible. We wish them the best of luck in this endeavor and hope for their quick return. Got Game has been a very supportive partner to Community Magnet over the years and has proven time and time again to be a stable and reliable program. However, I understand that many of our families depend on consistent after-school care and are in immediate need of another option. I have been working throughout the weekend to ensure that there would be no interruption in after-school care at Community for those families. I appreciate the immediate response and support  from LAUSD Operations and Beyond the Bell  in helping to find an after-school program for Community as we wait for Got
