“And the boy loved the tree.......very much. And the tree was happy.”

" And the boy loved the tree...very much.                      And the tree was happy .”  ― Shel Silverstein, The Giving Tree We were heartbroken to have to say goodbye to our lush trees on the upper yard. Over the years, those trees protected us from relentless heat with their comforting shade, provided a home to countless birds and insects, and contributed their natural beauty to the landscape. The LAUSD arborists said that they were sick and dying, so we had no choice but to let them go. In their place, new baby trees have been planted. We'll love our new trees very much as we watch them grow into happy and beautiful canopies of shade. In Remembrance of Martha Please vote here  for naming the CMCS auditorium Martha Melinda Auditorium in honor of Martha. In addition to dedicating the auditorium in her name, we will also be placing a rock in Lulu's Garden behind the Magnet Office with Martha's name, installing a p...

Better than a thousand days of diligent study,                         is one day with a GREAT TEACHER! --Japanese Proverb Sherry uses a model to help her students understand Earth's rotation around the sun and the moon's orbit around the Earth. Hello Community Families, Can you believe we're down to the final three weeks of the 2020-21 school year!? There's a lot to be done in these last few days of school -  assessments, culmination, planning and prepping for the new school year, closing out the current year . . .   Despite how busy things are, it's wonderful to take a peek inside the CMCS classrooms. Students are working on amazing projects and everyone is busy at work. But I love catching the special moments when a teacher sparks and inspires learning and creative thinking in a student. It's just great to be back on campus! I am...

Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Image
Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month. We pay tribute to the many Asian and Pacific Islander Americans who have  contributed to the rich history of America and its future successes. Please join us on Thursday, May 20th, at 10:30 a.m. for a school-wide assembly featuring the Hitachi Japanese Kite Workshops 20th Anniversary Commemoration. Ordinarily, we would be honored with a special visit from the Japanese Kite Master himself, Mikio Toki, but due to restrictions related to the pandemic, he has been unable to make the trip for these past 2 years. However, we look forward to his return next year. For now, we can enjoy this wonderful commemoration together. Click here to join us for this virtual commemoration.

Thank You!

Getting in the Groove

GETTING IN THE GROOVE Hello Community Families, Two weeks down and just six more to go! We're beginning to settle into a groove with smoother arrivals and dismissals, more consistent supervision, and our first round of on-site Covid-testing under our belts. Of course, CMCS teachers haven't missed a beat as quality instruction has continued seamlessly throughout the transition. Our parent volunteers are SO HELPFUL every morning unloading buses and cars, checking-in students, and taking temperatures. One parent even donated a pair of automatic temperature monitors that detect temperatures in seconds! Our systems and routines are getting more efficient every day. Students and staff are happy and excited to be back and our campus is once again full of life and energy! It's really great to be back!! MONDAY EARLY OUT SCHEDULE This is a reminder of the hybrid schedule on Mondays for the remainder of the school year. Note that buses will be operating on this early out schedule...
