Welcome to the new school year, Community Families! 

We are so excited to welcome families, new and old, back to campus for a full in-person return on Monday, August 16th!! As we countdown to the first day of school, the entire CMCS Community has been preparing for this amazing year ahead. 

Summer Playdates Were a Blast!

Thanks to our CFF team, CMCS families had three opportunities to meet one another, strike up new friendships, and have FUN! Playdates were held in the valley, West LA, and mid-city to give everyone a chance to get in on the fun. It was wonderful to see children running, playing together, and bonding. As you can see by these pics, a great time was had by all!!!

  
 

Preparing Campus and Enrolling New Students


Our office staff, Maria and Lalita, have been busy enrolling new families, collecting paperwork, preparing classroom assignments, and answering your questions. Andrew has been super busy preparing classrooms for a full return of students. Classrooms are being set up as they were before social distancing!

Baseline COVID Testing

We hosted the first of two Baseline Covid testing events this past Friday. Our COVID team is back and spent the day testing students and staff in preparation for a safe return to school. If you missed it, you may join us for the second event next Friday, August 13 from 8-2:30. No appointment is necessary for testing on our site and LAUSD siblings are welcome to test as well.

Teachers and Staff are Eager to Come Back!

Teachers have also been preparing for a return to campus, even though the first day back for all teachers is August 13! They're a dedicated  bunch!! Over the last couple of weeks, they've come to take their baseline Covid tests, organize supplies, and set up classrooms.

 Sarah Lilly is readying devices, Kathryn is working on transportation, Phyllis is assisting our new parents, and Andrew is cleaning and sanitizing.

  Back-to-School Night is next week! It will be a very busy night for parents as we introduce our teachers and our new CFF board members, check out the classrooms and textbooks, and learn what our students will be doing and learning this school year. Parents will be asked to sign up for committees and/or Room Parent positions. Community Council nominees will introduce themselves before ballot voting at each grade level. While this event will be a busy and exciting night for parents, that's not necessarily the case for the students! Since they do  not actively participate in this event, they will have an especially long day at school. For these reasons, we ask that you please plan to  make childcare arrangements away from campus. There will be no childcare or supervision available at Back-to-School night. IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Dear Community Families, Over the weekend, I was notified that Got Game Camp, our after-school program, would be taking a temporary pause in operation effective immediately. Coach K has contacted all affected families and he and his team are working around the clock to get the program back up and running as soon as possible. We wish them the best of luck in this endeavor and hope for their quick return. Got Game has been a very supportive partner to Community Magnet over the years and has proven time and time again to be a stable and reliable program. However, I understand that many of our families depend on consistent after-school care and are in immediate need of another option. I have been working throughout the weekend to ensure that there would be no interruption in after-school care at Community for those families. I appreciate the immediate response and support  from LAUSD Operations and Beyond the Bell  in helping to find an after-school program for Community as we wait for Got
