Updates for the New Year!

Happy New Year, Community!

Last month, it seemed that 2021 would be ending on a high note. After 3 months with few positive COVID results, it seemed that we were moving closer to normal in 2022. Our plan was to begin inviting parent volunteers back and possibly bringing back some of the school-wide events that we've missed so much these last few months. However, with the ongoing pandemic, we must put our hopes on hold a little longer as we brace for an uncertain first few weeks of the second semester. Here are a few of the changes that you'll need to know as we return to school:

  • The first day of school for students has been changed to Tuesday, January 11. 
  • A baseline test for COVID-19, received after January 3,  is required of all students and staff before returning to campus. Without evidence of a negative test result, students and staff will not be admitted to campus. Students and staff who have tested positive in the last 90 days and have isolated for the recommended number of days, are exempt from the baseline testing requirement.
  • It is required that all employees wear surgical-grade masks on campus.
  • It is recommended that all students wear non-cloth masks with a nose-wire.
  • All students and staff are required to wear masks indoors and outdoors at school.
  • Per the September, 2021 LAUSD/UTLA bargaining agreement, teachers are no longer required to provide instruction via ZOOM. Please contact me and/or your child's teacher for information on the short-term Independent Study option for students who are absent from 3-14 days due to COVID-related issues.
For the week of January 10th, on-site COVID testing will be Wednesday, January 12th instead of Friday, January 14th            at Community Magnet Charter School.

Updates have also been made to the protocols and procedures regarding COVID exposure management. Stay tuned for Tea Time with Toni when I will present these new isolation and quarantine requirements for close contacts and positive cases.

Monday, January 24 - Community Council Meeting

*Early dismissal every Tuesday-  1:30 p.m.

  Back-to-School Night is next week! It will be a very busy night for parents as we introduce our teachers and our new CFF board members, check out the classrooms and textbooks, and learn what our students will be doing and learning this school year. Parents will be asked to sign up for committees and/or Room Parent positions. Community Council nominees will introduce themselves before ballot voting at each grade level. While this event will be a busy and exciting night for parents, that's not necessarily the case for the students! Since they do  not actively participate in this event, they will have an especially long day at school. For these reasons, we ask that you please plan to  make childcare arrangements away from campus. There will be no childcare or supervision available at Back-to-School night. IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Dear Community Families, Over the weekend, I was notified that Got Game Camp, our after-school program, would be taking a temporary pause in operation effective immediately. Coach K has contacted all affected families and he and his team are working around the clock to get the program back up and running as soon as possible. We wish them the best of luck in this endeavor and hope for their quick return. Got Game has been a very supportive partner to Community Magnet over the years and has proven time and time again to be a stable and reliable program. However, I understand that many of our families depend on consistent after-school care and are in immediate need of another option. I have been working throughout the weekend to ensure that there would be no interruption in after-school care at Community for those families. I appreciate the immediate response and support  from LAUSD Operations and Beyond the Bell  in helping to find an after-school program for Community as we wait for Got
