Cesar Chavez Day

CESAR CHAVEZ

“We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community.” - Cesar Chavez

On Monday, March 28th, school will be closed in honor of Cesar Chavez. Every year, the state of California recognizes him on his birthday, March 31. Chavez was a Mexican-American civil rights leader who fought for the rights of farm workers in the United States. How can students and families honor Cesar Chavez and farm workers across the United States? One way is to plant a vegetable garden or learn the words to De Colores, the anthem of the United Farmworkers of America, an organization founded by Cesar Chavez and other early organizers.

IMPORTANT PUMP IT UP MESSAGE!!

Hi Community Families,

Pump It Up, CMCS's walk-a-thon, will take place on our upper yard this Friday, April 1st.  All the students will be walking 6 laps around our track while navigating different obstacles.  To get in the spirit, we are asking students to wear their TEAM COLOR to school – Green for Green Serpent, Red for Red Phoenix, Yellow or Gold for Golden Lion.  Please make sure kids wear sneakers and clothes that will allow them to safely participate in the walk-a-thon.  We will have an obstacle where kids will get water sprayed on them by parent volunteers.    If your child takes the bus, you may want to send an extra set of clothes that they can get changed into before getting on the bus.  If kids don’t want to get wet, they will have the option of walking around the water spray obstacle.

This is also the last week of Pump It Up’s March to Fitness.  If your child(ren) participated in the March to Fitness Challenge (exercised 15 mins. at home, followed the fitness calendar), then sign at the bottom of the calendar and have your child(ren) bring it to school on WEDNESDAY!    Their names will then be put in a raffle to win a new scooter.  We will have 2 drawings, (1) for Kinder – 2nd grade, and (1) for 3rd – 5th grade on THURSDAY and announce the winners during Pump It Up.

Thank you, Community!

Best,Kate Harrington

VALET ETIQUETTE AND GUIDELINES

As you know, we teach our students to always BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE, AND BE TRUSTWORTHY! Sometimes, we as adults, need gentle reminders, too!

Here is a very important reminder about Valet Safety. Please read and heed:

It is imperative that everyone follow proper procedure with regard to the valet service. It has come to our attention that parents are walking students from the school to cars parked in the visitor’s lot and walking with students between the parked buses. For the safety of ALL students, please abide by the following rules both in the morning (7:30-8:15) and afternoon (2:15-3:00):

1. DO NOT enter through the exit gate. Enter only through the east gate.
2. Children are NOT allowed in the parking lot during the carpool hours (7:30am-8:15am and 2:15pm-3:00pm).
3. ALL students should load and unload at the curbside only. In the morning, please drop your student at the valet curb, and then park in the visitor’s lot if you are staying on campus. If you are parked in the school lot in the afternoon, your student must wait at valet for you to pull your car around. You do not have to go to the end of the valet line; simply pull around to the valet curb. The valet attendant will direct you.
4. NEVER walk a student between the parked buses! The valet attendant will cross you and your student to the other side if your car is parked on the street.
5. NEVER leave your car unattended in the valet line.
6. DO NOT try to drive between the buses and the line of valet cars.
7. Be patient when using the valet service.
8. Drive SLOWLY on school grounds.

Also, every valet parent was supplied with a paper placard with your child's name. It would help so much if every valet parent would display this placard in the windshield at pm pick up. If you need a placard, just let us know. We appreciate your cooperation!

Please, let’s all remember that even if you are in a rush, it’s important to be civil and courteous…our kids are watching!
