SPRING FORWARD!

DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME

Don't forget: you should have set your clock one hour ahead this morning, Sunday, March 13th at 2 a.m. Why 2 a.m.? The reason for a 2 a.m. daylight saving time is that at 2 a.m. most people are sleeping and therefore won't notice the time change.

PRINCIPALS for the DAY

Principals Abbey and Delilah Fabian gave Toni a break from administrative duties on Friday. Their first order of business was to extend recess! They also declared the day to be Pajama Day! Here is part of their to-do list: present the Friday Morning Assembly, bring classes over for COVID testing, visit classes to take the Spirit Count, prepare for Sunday's auditorium dedication, and review and sign important documents. Principals Abbey and Delilah had a little bit of fun, too. They enjoyed a well-deserved pizza lunch, then emceed the school dance on the upper yard.

The office staff appreciated the hard work and effort put forth by Principals Abbey and Delilah. Alice said it was great to have Delilah's help in getting all the students COVID-tested. Kathryn loved the creativity and assistance in preparing for our big event on Sunday. Toni was grateful to have a break from presenting the Friday Morning Assembly. And the students were very happy for the few extra minutes of recess! Great job, Principals Abbey and Delilah! And thank you!!!!

Here are a few pictures of students dressed for Pajama Day!

Star Gazing Event

On Friday, several Readathon winners and their families gathered on the upper yard to enjoy a night under the stars! They were joined by special guest, Shruti Iyer, who studies astrophysics at UCLA. Shruti led the stargazers in finding and identifying constellations and stars in the night sky. Check out the pics below!

A GOODBYE TO OUR TREES

Thursday was a sad day on campus when we said goodbye to two of our beloved trees which have provided shade, protection and beauty to our campus for many years.

You may remember that the asphalt near room 14 was repaired a few weeks ago. The tree's roots had to be cut back to make the repairs. After review, it was determined that the remaining roots were causing a tripping hazard because they were so big and thick. Therefore, the tree had to be removed.

The ficus tree near the cafeteria was also removed. The roots had grown very long causing the concrete in front of the Magnet Office to crack and lift. The doors to the office could no longer open fully which caused a safety hazard. In the case of an emergency, it would be difficult to exit quickly from those doors. The next step is to break up the concrete in front of the Magnet Office, remove the remaining roots, repair the concrete, and replace the doors.

The good news is that both trees will be replaced. We are hoping to replant our four young trees from the upper yard somewhere on the lower campus. If you have any ideas of where we could put those trees, please let us know!

DON'T FORGET TO PUMP IT UP!!
