Looking Forward to Day 1

Hello, Community Families!

I hope you are enjoying a wonderfully relaxing and fun summer break. I was so happy to spend a few days with my family (including my daughter, Symone 😄) in Napa early this summer. The wine was delicious, the vineyards so beautiful, and the experience was completely relaxing!

I also enjoyed meeting so many new families and students this summer at the summertime playdates.  We all made new friends and had a great time socializing, playing, and getting acquainted.  KUDOS to the amazing CFF volunteers who worked so hard to make these 3 playdates so fun and exciting!
School begins in less than a week! We're excited to have everyone on campus to begin an amazing new year. Check this weekly blog, usually posted on Sundays, and our website, communitymagnet.org to keep up with the latest information.

Here is a bit of important information you'll need to know . . .

NEW PARENT ORIENTATION

New Parent Orientation is this Wednesday, August 10, 1:00-2:30. An email with details went out last week, so please email me (trk2932@lausd.net) if you haven't received it. This year, orientation is for new families only.

CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS

You will be able to look up your student's classroom assignment on the parent portal later this week. If not, you will receive an email at the end of this week informing you of your child's classroom assignment.

IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS and FORMS

All families, new and returning, need to make sure to turn in all required documents to the main office as soon as possible. You may download the documents (click here for access), print, complete, and return with your child on the first day of school. New parents may bring the completed documents to the main office at orientation.

Click here to view classroom supply lists for grades 1-5.

COVID PROTOCOL FOR RETURNING TO SCHOOL

It is recommended, but not required, for students to test within 48 hours of entering campus for the first day of school. Please note we are distributing rapid antigen tests to all returning students through Friday, August 12 between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm at our Main Office. (New families may pick up rapid antigen tests during New Parent Orientation.) If you plan to pick up rapid tests from school, please email Lalita at lyl32572@lausd.net to let her know when you plan to arrive so that she may have the tests ready for you. If you already have a rapid antigen test at home, please feel free to use it to save yourself a trip to campus!

We recommend you administer the rapid test provided by your school within 48 hours of the first day of school.

Students/Staff who test NEGATIVE:

  • No further action is required

  • Do not upload to Daily Pass

  • Attend school

Students/Staff who test POSITIVE

  • Isolate immediately/ DO NOT attend school

  • Contact a doctor to make a plan for care, and

  • On a separate paper, write down the following information and take a picture.

  1. Full legal name,

  2. Date of birth,

  3. Test date, and

  4. “POSITIVE”

For assistance with uploading test results, please contact the Family Help Desk at 213-443-1300, Monday-Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.  We look forward to your participation in our exciting school programs this year.

BUS TRANSPORTATION

• You should be receiving your bus route/stop in the mail directly from Transportation. If you have not, contact Kathryn and she will try to help. Kxm2679@lausd.net

• You must wait at least two weeks to request changes to your route. Even if changes were approved last year, you must use the route assigned this year until changes can be accommodated. Contact Kathryn beginning August 29th and she will submit requests.

• Turn in your Transportation Plan form (on our website) by August 10th. We need to know how your child is getting home from the first day of school (and everyday) in time to notify teachers and get tags on backpacks. If we have not received the form, our default plan will be to put your student on their assigned bus.

• If the bus is your transportation plan, we encourage families to use it from the first day on. Kindergarten parents are welcome to follow the bus, park (on the upper yard) and watch your student get off.

• We will be putting more info about bus and valet on our website soon
