MIDWEEK UPDATES!

Good evening, Community Families,

What a week it's been . . . and it's only WEDNESDAY!  😆

Please accept my apologies for missing Sunday's blog, but here it is today!

I wish I could provide you with amazing photos of our teachers and students teaching and learning "old style"! I don't have the photos, but please believe me when I say they did not miss a beat!!

Thank you for your patience as we all catch up on emails. As of today, all CMCS staff has just regained access.

Here are a few updates for the week.

Best,

Toni

RANSOMWARE ATTACK ON LAUSD

As you're probably already aware, LAUSD's technology systems were hacked over the weekend, preventing LAUSD employees and students access to emails and other critical systems. Over the last couple of days, LAUSD has focused on getting access to all employees. As of today, all CMCS staff have regained access to emails and a couple of other systems. Over the next couple of days, the district will be focusing on access for middle and high school students and after that, for elementary school students.  Please be patient with us as we get student passwords updated. We'll be working on that as soon as we get the go-ahead from the LAUSD's IT department.

HEATWAVE!

Today was Day 9 of this heatwave with at least two more days to go. The heat and humidity have almost been unbearable on campus after 11am. We have been able to get through regular recesses on the upper yard, but have used an inclement weather schedule at lunch time. Students eat outside in the cafeteria area, then move into the cool auditorium (classrooms for kindergarten students) to watch movies for the second half of lunch.

We have at least three classrooms with poor AC systems which are in line for district repairs. Fortunately, we have the capacity to move these three classes into cooler areas on campus where the AC is working well. This is a viable solution that will get us through this heatwave.

Thank you to those parents who took action and purchased fans for Room 25! You guys are ROCK STARS!

AFTER-SCHOOL CARE

Despite all that's been happening, we are still hoping to find two wonderful people to run our after-school program through Beyond the Bell. If you know anyone who may be interested, please have them call our office or email me at trk2932@lausd.net. We count on our parents for a lot, and we're here again asking for your support in this. I have exhausted all of my options.   AND, we also still need TAs!

1-to-1 Homework Help is Here!

To support students and families, LAUSD is providing on demand homework help with a personal virtual tutor. This support is available to all elementary and span K-8 LAUSD students at no cost to families in multiple languages. We have contracted with Paper to ensure 24/7 instant support for all students and families. Students may log into their schoology account and click on the Paper app. For more information please visit https://paper.co/lausd
