Dia de los Muertos!

Join us as we continue our Hispanic Heritage celebration           with a special program on

Día de los Muertos!

Our 1st and 3rd graders have been working hard on their presentations and would love to show you what they've  learned. Both grades will perform in the auditorium on Tuesday, November 1st at 8:30am and then again at 1:10pm.

First grade parents are welcome to come watch the morning show with our 1st, 2nd, and 5th graders.

Third grade parents are invited to come to the 1:10 performance along with our Kindergarten, 3rd, and 4th grade students.

Parents may come at either time, but all parents will be asked to stand in the back of the auditorium to give seating preference to our students.

Each show shouldn't last more than 15-20 minutes. Parents may park in the visitor lot, on the hill, or on the upper yard.

Thank you to our wonderful 1st and 3rd grade teachers and your amazing students!

BEAUTIFICATION DAY

Beautification Day
has been postponed to give us more time to organize.  Stay tuned for the new date.
This fall Beautification day will be a small event since there are few tasks to be completed.

Here's what we need . . .
  • Someone with a big truck to load and haul away lots of junk and debris from behind Rm. 14. (Bring heavy-duty gloves, a dolly, and some muscle.)
  • Parents to remove wood from behind Rm. 14 and level the soil. (Bring heavy-duty gloves, shovels, rakes, a wheelbarrow.)
  • Talented parents who can design / create a reading garden behind room 14. (Your creativity! Building the actual garden will be our spring beautification task.)
  • Help decorating our many plant beds and pots with colorful drought resistant plants! (Bring shovels, trowels, garden shears.)
  • Parents to do some light weeding across the campus. (Bring weeding tools.)
  • Please be sure to label any equipment you bring!
We know this is very short notice, so we thank you for your participation!  Please sign up here if you are able to help.

We urge all parents to complete the School Experience Survey (SES) this year! When you complete this survey about your experience at Community Magnet Charter School, you help us make improvements and decisions for our school.  We value your opinion and need your feedback!   Click here to take the survey.

Parent Engagement is one category surveyed on the SES. Last year, 92% of parents surveyed gave CMCS high marks for parent engagement. Why?
  • We inform parents about school activities in many different ways, e.g., our school website, weekly blogs, Fresh Schools, phone messages, emails, text messages, and teacher communication.
  • We welcome parents to participate at CMCS through CFF, on our Community Council, as a parent representative, on a variety of committees, or as a Tier I, II, or III parent volunteer.
  • We invite parents to help us make important decisions about our children's education by joining in on a Community Council meeting, voicing your opinions/concerns through your grade level representative, or speaking directly with the principal via email or phone.
  • Our CFF committee does an amazing job of recruiting and organizing parents to help support our school, through fundraising efforts, committee offerings, and event sign-ups.

We are still hoping to find two wonderful people to run our after-school program through Beyond the Bell. If you know anyone who may be interested, please have them call our office or email me at trk2932@lausd.net. We count on our parents for a lot, and we're here again asking for your support in this. I have exhausted all of my options.   AND, we also still need TAs!

LAUSD/SCHOOL POLICY ON ELECTRONIC DEVICES AT SCHOOL

CELLULAR TELEPHONES AND OTHER MOBILE DEVICES It is the policy of LA Unified to prohibit the use of cellular phones or any electronic mobile device by students on campus during normal school hours. Students are permitted to possess cellular phones, or other electronic mobile devices such as cameras, electronic games, radios, MP3 players, computing devices, tablets, etc. on campus, provided that any such device shall remain turned off and stored in a locker, backpack, purse, pocket, or other places where it is not visible during normal school hours. Students are permitted to use cellular phones or other electronic mobile devices on campus, before and after school or during school activities that occur outside of school hours. For LA Unified, state, and national assessments, students are prohibited to access any unauthorized electronic devices at any time during the entire testing session. Students must comply any time a request is made by school personnel to cease the use of a cellular phone and/or other electronic mobile device even before or after school. Schools may adopt more stringent cellular phone policies through the School Site Council. Cellular phone use on the school bus is for emergency purposes only; driver authorization is required. For more information, you may call Transportation Services at (800) 522-8737. LA Unified is not responsible for lost or stolen cellular phones or other electronic mobile devices.

If a student is found using and/or displaying a cell phone, it will be taken away to be returned to a parent upon request.

You may find this information in the Parent-Student Handbook  (page 6) which is posted on our school website under the Resources tab. A hard copy of the handbook should have been sent home by the teacher. If not, please let me know. Also, please let me know if you have any questions regarding this LAUSD policy at trk2932@laud.net.
