. . . those are just a few words that describe 4th grader, Daniel O. We are so happy and proud that Daniel O. has completed cancer treatments and is back on the road to health!!


Daniel says, "Chemotherapy was hard but I would like to thank everyone who has helped me through my sessions especially my family and friends because they made me stronger. I was so excited when I rang the bell because it meant that I was done with chemo. It has been such a long time since I had Leukemia so I am grateful for all the support I received from everyone who has been there with me. Thank you staff and Children’s Hospital!"





  

Chaewon and Taeo were Principals for the Day on March 3. They stayed busy throughout the day! Their tasks included checking in on classrooms, reminding teachers to take attendance, selecting prizes for our Treasure Box, and presenting the Morning Assembly! They also enjoyed a delicious pizza lunch with selected friends. Job well done Principals Chaewon and Taeo!!

STARGAZING

Read-a-thon winners were treated to a star-studded evening on Friday, March 3rd. Geovanni Somoza from the Planetary Society hosted the event and shared his passion and knowledge about the stars. Telescopes of all sizes were on hand as we viewed our moon, Venus, Jupiter, and Mars! Thanks to CFF's Read-a-Thon committee for sponsoring this magical event!

GREASE is the WORD!

Jaxx Theatre's production of GREASE was an amazing showcase for some amazing Community talent!! The beautiful singing, the joyous dancing, the amazing acting made this such a fun event! Congratulations to the entire cast, crew, company, and parents! Bravo!


    



IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT PARENT VOLUNTEERS

We LOVE our parent volunteers because they do SO MUCH for our students! The Annual Read-a-thon, Sweethearts Dance, the heritage assemblies, the Book Fair, and helping teachers in the classrooms, chaperoning field trips, and valet . . . it all matters a lot and we are all grateful for your strong support! As we readjust to having volunteers back on campus, we must remind you of the following:

1) Once you have opened an online volunteer application, you have 30 days to complete the process: submit your parent commitment form, TB test clearance (within 4 years), and fingerprinting for one-on-one tutors and overnight field trip chaperones. If you plan to volunteer on campus, you must upload your COVID vaccination card to dailypass.lausd.net to be approved by LAUSD's Community Engagement. 

All incomplete applications created before February 10, 2023 have been declined. If your application was declined, you are welcome to reapply once you are ready to submit the required documents.

2) You may volunteer on campus only after your application and COVID vaccine card have been received, reviewed, and approved by Community Engagement. You will be notified by Parent and Community Services once you are approved.





Community Magnet is not a host school for the Acceleration Days. Our students will be assigned to Fairburn ES. Need your student in a school closer to home for Acceleration Days? Stay tuned for more information on this from the district soon!

 LAUSD/SCHOOL POLICY ON ELECTRONIC DEVICES AT SCHOOL

CELLULAR TELEPHONES AND OTHER MOBILE DEVICES It is the policy of LA Unified to prohibit the use of cellular phones or any electronic mobile device by students on campus during normal school hours. Students are permitted to possess cellular phones, or other electronic mobile devices such as cameras, electronic games, radios, MP3 players, computing devices, tablets, etc. on campus, provided that any such device shall remain turned off and stored in a locker, backpack, purse, pocket, or other places where it is not visible during normal school hours. Students are permitted to use cellular phones or other electronic mobile devices on campus, before and after school or during school activities that occur outside of school hours. For LA Unified, state, and national assessments, students are prohibited to access any unauthorized electronic devices at any time during the entire testing session. Students must comply any time a request is made by school personnel to cease the use of a cellular phone and/or other electronic mobile device even before or after school. Schools may adopt more stringent cellular phone policies through the School Site Council. Cellular phone use on the school bus is for emergency purposes only; driver authorization is required. For more information, you may call Transportation Services at (800) 522-8737. LA Unified is not responsible for lost or stolen cellular phones or other electronic mobile devices.

If a student is found using and/or displaying a cell phone, it will be taken away to be returned to a parent upon request.

A hard copy of the handbook should have been sent home by the teacher. If not, please let me know.   ENRICHMENT BLOCKS BEGIN THIS WEEK! Dear Community Families, WHEW!! What a week! It was an exciting one and we're so happy to have students back on campus. We now have a week under our belts- students know where their classrooms are, who their teachers are, and their bus assignments. Teachers have taught classroom systems and procedures, and we've taught our expectations for behavior during behavior assemblies.  On Thursday, we practiced our first fire and earthquake drills of the year. We learned how to evacuate quickly and quietly to the upper yard and how to drop, cover, and hold in the classroom. We held our first Morning Assembly on Friday. Each week, teachers select one student to be recognized as the Student-of-the-Week at the Morning Assembly. These students receive certificates to acknowledge their achievement and are invited to select a prize from the Treasure Box. Staff members issue Kindness Counts coupons are given to students who show kindness and good citizenshi

It's the First Day of School!

  Dear Community Families, The first day of school is here! There will be a lot happening at school this week to kick off the new year.  All parents are welcome to join us for a Meet & Greet after walking your student to their classroom on the first day of school. CFF will provide light refreshments as you meet and mingle with other parents and CMCS staff. Meet us on the Room 1 yard at 8:10am. Our Beginning-of-Year Assessment windows open this week so your child will be taking diagnostic tests in reading (DIBELS for Gr. K-2 / iReady for Gr. 3-5) and math (iReady for all grade levels). Teachers will use these results to determine classroom small group instruction, after-school intervention groups, advanced math groups, and tutoring groups. As of last school year, LAUSD requires students to complete 30-45 minutes of iReady Personalized Learning per week. Welcome to the 2024-25 School Year

  Dear Community Families, Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year at Community Magnet Charter School! This summer flew by quickly, but I hope you enjoyed time with your families and friends. I am very happy to have spent a week visiting Toronto with my family. It just so happened that we were there for Canada Day (similar to our Fourth of July) and the Toronto Jazz Festival! In addition to spectacular fireworks, top-notch dining, and wonderful jazz music, we witnessed the awesomeness of the beautiful Niagara Falls. It was a fun-packed week and I left with a special place in my heart for Toronto! Speaking of fun-packed, Community was buzzing with fun for most of the summer. We hosted the Kids 4 College Summer Camp, Camp Invention, BSAP Summer Bridging Program and Kinder Camp! This week will be even busier, but without the kids and not so fun. Albert and Rick will complete the final campus cleaning. Office staff will finalize classroom assignments (to be completed by August 8th) and enroll
