Join us in supporting this year's 5th grade CMCS Conga Kids Team: Tatum, Brandon, Jordan, Cynthia, Willow, Aulani, Bella, Ryan, Grace, Sadie, Caleb, and Marissa! This 5th grade team will be competing on Wednesday, April 19th at Marina Del Rey MS for a chance to advance to the Grand Finale Competition. Here is your invitation to attend:

SAFETY FIRST!!


Hello Parents!
We'd like to extend a huge welcome to our new Plant Manger, Albert, who will oversee all of CMCS maintenance and facilities.  He's already tackled a bunch of work orders and service calls.  We'd also like to welcome back our night shift buildings & grounds custodian, Rick, who returned from another school.  It's a breath of fresh air that we've resolved our two critical vacant positions.  LAUSD is short staffed district wide.
We'd also like to thank our two parent volunteers leading our Safety and Facility Committee:  Ben Dennis and Howard Chiang. Both Ben and Howard have been tracking safety issues.   
We would like to ensure we have an effective safety and maintenance work flow process and tracking.   If you see something on campus that needs attention, please let us know by completing this short form.  Our team is committed to providing our school with exceptional service and support.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT PARENT VOLUNTEERS

We LOVE our parent volunteers because they do SO MUCH for our students! The Annual Read-a-thon, Sweethearts Dance, the heritage assemblies, the Book Fair, and helping teachers in the classrooms, chaperoning field trips, and valet . . . it all matters a lot and we are all grateful for your strong support! As we readjust to having volunteers back on campus, we must remind you of the following:

1) Once you have opened an online volunteer application, you have 30 days to complete the process: submit your parent commitment form, TB test clearance (within 4 years), and fingerprinting for one-on-one tutors and overnight field trip chaperones. If you plan to volunteer on campus, you must upload your COVID vaccination card to dailypass.lausd.net to be approved by LAUSD's Community Engagement. 

All incomplete applications created before February 10, 2023 have been declined. If your application was declined, you are welcome to reapply once you are ready to submit the required documents.

2) You may volunteer on campus only after your application and COVID vaccine card have been received, reviewed, and approved by Community Engagement. You will be notified by Parent and Community Services once you are approved.

This support is available to all elementary and span K-8 LAUSD students at no cost to families in multiple languages.  LAUSD/SCHOOL POLICY ON ELECTRONIC DEVICES AT SCHOOL

CELLULAR TELEPHONES AND OTHER MOBILE DEVICES It is the policy of LA Unified to prohibit the use of cellular phones or any electronic mobile device by students on campus during normal school hours. Students are permitted to possess cellular phones, or other electronic mobile devices such as cameras, electronic games, radios, MP3 players, computing devices, tablets, etc. on campus, provided that any such device shall remain turned off and stored in a locker, backpack, purse, pocket, or other places where it is not visible during normal school hours. Students are permitted to use cellular phones or other electronic mobile devices on campus, before and after school or during school activities that occur outside of school hours. For LA Unified, state, and national assessments, students are prohibited to access any unauthorized electronic devices at any time during the entire testing session. Students must comply any time a request is made by school personnel to cease the use of a cellular phone and/or other electronic mobile device even before or after school. Schools may adopt more stringent cellular phone policies through the School Site Council. Cellular phone use on the school bus is for emergency purposes only; driver authorization is required. For more information, you may call Transportation Services at (800) 522-8737. LA Unified is not responsible for lost or stolen cellular phones or other electronic mobile devices.

If a student is found using and/or displaying a cell phone, it will be taken away to be returned to a parent upon request.

A hard copy of the handbook should have been sent home by the teacher. If not, please let me know.   Back-to-School Night is next week! It will be a very busy night for parents as we introduce our teachers and our new CFF board members, check out the classrooms and textbooks, and learn what our students will be doing and learning this school year. Parents will be asked to sign up for committees and/or Room Parent positions. Community Council nominees will introduce themselves before ballot voting at each grade level. While this event will be a busy and exciting night for parents, that's not necessarily the case for the students! Since they do  not actively participate in this event, they will have an especially long day at school. For these reasons, we ask that you please plan to  make childcare arrangements away from campus. There will be no childcare or supervision available at Back-to-School night. IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Dear Community Families, Over the weekend, I was notified that Got Game Camp, our after-school program, would be taking a temporary pause in operation effective immediately. Coach K has contacted all affected families and he and his team are working around the clock to get the program back up and running as soon as possible. We wish them the best of luck in this endeavor and hope for their quick return. Got Game has been a very supportive partner to Community Magnet over the years and has proven time and time again to be a stable and reliable program. However, I understand that many of our families depend on consistent after-school care and are in immediate need of another option. I have been working throughout the weekend to ensure that there would be no interruption in after-school care at Community for those families.
