A WONDERFUL INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S DAY !

A WONDERFUL INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S DAY !

Friday's International Children's Day event was the first for many Community members, including me! It was magical!! This is the BUSIEST time of the year with state testing, end-of-year assessments, report cards, our annual AAPI Heritage celebrations, 5th grade culmination activities, etc. But, despite it all, teachers and students brought it for International Children's Day. The dances were amazing! Thank you, teachers, for your dedication and hard work. Thank you to the dance choreographers: 5th grade student, Grace M., for assisting with the kindergarten's Hip Hop dance,  Aimee, parent of Sanai and Neema, (first grade African dance), Anne, Hansol's mom, (third grade Indian dance), and CMCS's versatile and amazing dance teacher, Myko (K's Hip Hop dance, 2nd grade Korean dance, 4th grade Irish dance). Thank you to Kathleen, CMCS's visual arts teacher, for the colorful and beautiful cultural art. Thank you to the many parents who shared their culture through food, dress, games, and activities. Thank you to Albert (CMCS Plant Manager) for the set-up and tear-down. And a big thank you to CFF President Kate, and our own Kathryn, and their team for bringing it all to life. I took so many pictures and had no time to prepare them for this blog. Be sure to check out Fresh Schools for photos of this amazing event!

Shall we do it all again next year???

HELP NEEDED!!!!

The Fourth Grade teachers are asking for your HELP! They need parent volunteers to help with preparations on Monday, June 5, 2:30pm-4:30pm. Please contact Laura Scott through Fresh Schools to sign up.  Thank you!!!!

PARENT WORKSHOP SERIES  2023-24

As you may know, CMCS has partnered with UCLA's Center X, Parent Empowerment Project. As part of the project, UCLA will be facilitating a series of 12 parent workshops in 2023-24 focusing on academics. There will be 2 workshops each in math, reading, writing, social studies/history, science, and Social-Emotional learning. These workshops will be available to ALL CMCS parents. We'd love your input. Is there anything you would like to know more about in these areas? Please click here to give your suggestions.    Thank you for your input!!!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM SARAH LILY

All library books are due back starting Monday May 22.  I have been sending out the purple overdue notices, but if you want to know what your child needs to return you can check under Schoology.

Log in to your child’s Schoology account:

Go to the Apps Waffle in the top icon bar (the 4 little squares)

Click on “Destiny Library”  (should be the 2nd one down)

Depending on your computer or browser you might have to click “Launch App”

Find the “My Info” tab and that will show what your child has checked out.

If the book is lost, please replace it as soon as possible.  I don’t mind a used copy as long as it is hardback.  Abebooks.com and Thriftbooks.com are great places to find a decent used copy.  You can also pay for it with a check made out to CSPA.

But I really do prefer a replacement (it’s cheaper, too).  If the books are not replaced or paid for, the school can hold your child’s report card until the issue is resolved.

Also, I really need help with inventory.  If you are on campus and have a little time, please stop by the library.  Thanks and if you have any questions, please email me at:  slilly3@lausd.net

LAUSD/SCHOOL POLICY ON ELECTRONIC DEVICES AT SCHOOL

CELLULAR TELEPHONES AND OTHER MOBILE DEVICES It is the policy of LA Unified to prohibit the use of cellular phones or any electronic mobile device by students on campus during normal school hours. Students are permitted to possess cellular phones, or other electronic mobile devices such as cameras, electronic games, radios, MP3 players, computing devices, tablets, etc. on campus, provided that any such device shall remain turned off and stored in a locker, backpack, purse, pocket, or other places where it is not visible during normal school hours. Students are permitted to use cellular phones or other electronic mobile devices on campus, before and after school or during school activities that occur outside of school hours. For LA Unified, state, and national assessments, students are prohibited to access any unauthorized electronic devices at any time during the entire testing session. Students must comply any time a request is made by school personnel to cease the use of a cellular phone and/or other electronic mobile device even before or after school. Schools may adopt more stringent cellular phone policies through the School Site Council. Cellular phone use on the school bus is for emergency purposes only; driver authorization is required. For more information, you may call Transportation Services at (800) 522-8737. LA Unified is not responsible for lost or stolen cellular phones or other electronic mobile devices.

If a student is found using and/or displaying a cell phone, it will be taken away to be returned to a parent upon request.

You may find this information in the Parent-Student Handbook  (page 6) which is posted on our school website under the Resources tab. A hard copy of the handbook should have been sent home by the teacher. If not, please let me know. Also, please let me know if you have any questions regarding this LAUSD policy at trk2932@laud.net.
