Back-to-School Night

Back-to-School Night is next week! It will be a very busy night for parents as we introduce our teachers and our new CFF board members, check out the classrooms and textbooks, and learn what our students will be doing and learning this school year. Parents will be asked to sign up for committees and/or Room Parent positions. Community Council nominees will introduce themselves before ballot voting at each grade level.

While this event will be a busy and exciting night for parents, that's not necessarily the case for the students! Since they do  not actively participate in this event, they will have an especially long day at school. For these reasons, we ask that you please plan to  make childcare arrangements away from campus. There will be no childcare or supervision available at Back-to-School night.

Also, please remember that Back-to-School night is not a parent conference. If you need time to discuss your child specifically, please be sure to sign up for a conference at the upcoming Six-Week Invitational Conferences to be held September 18-22.

The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priorities. To provide schools an opportunity to practice emergency response procedures, the Superintendent of Schools has asked all students and staff to participate in District-wide emergency preparedness drills.

The goals of the training drills are to improve our ability to protect students, save lives, and reduce injuries. As part of the drill, the students and staff will participate in the activation of our school's Safe School Plan.

Please make sure that all contact information for your child is current at school, so that in the event of an actual emergency, we can reach you.

Please discuss with your child your family's home emergency preparedness plan. Several resources are available to help you prepare. The American Red Cross has outstanding materials. You can obtain Red Cross materials in English or Spanish from their website: http//:www.redcross.org or by calling the Los Angles Chapter at (310) 445-9900.

    FIRE DRILL -
We practice evacuation for the event in which there is a fire on or directly threatening campus. This action provides protection if a school building or an adjacent area is burning.

EARTHQUAKE DRILL- (DROP / COVER / HOLD ON)
This action provides maximum protection during an earthquake or other emergency where the risk of flying or falling debris is present. There is typically no advance warning or signal given.

    LOCKDOWN-
This action is taken when the threat of violence or gunfire is identified or directed by law enforcement and it is necessary to prevent the perpetrator(s) from entering any occupied campus areas. This action is to secure the school during police actions, campus intrusions. community incidents, or other real or perceived threats to the security of the school.

    SHELTER-IN-PLACE-

The shelter-in-place action protects students indoors from airborne contaminants or other                          environmental dangers that are present outside. Shelter-in-place includes the shutdown of                          classroom and building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, as no one                       should be exposed to outside, contaminated air.

    TAKE COVER-
This action provides protection during hazards such as a bomb blast explosion, airplane crash, gas storage, tank explosion, or shooting incident. There is typically no advance warning or signal given.

VALET RULES

For the SAFETY of your child and ALL children and parents at CMCS, if you are driving your child to school you MUST follow these valet rules.
    • Arrive at CMCS between 7:30 and 8:00
    • Enter through the gate on the EAST side of the school.
    • Drive along the left curb.  The right curb is a bus lane whether or not the buses have arrived.
    • Wait patiently in a single file line along the left curb of the driveway.
    • When a valet volunteer or LAUSD staff directs you, turn right at the parking lot and pull up to the Valet Curb.  There can be a maximum of 3 cars at the Valet Curb.
    • Under no circumstances can you park with your child and walk them through the parking lot. If, especially during these first weeks of school, you want to walk your child to the front gate, you MUST drop your child at the Valet Curb and then park your car.  Your child can wait for you near the valet volunteers on the bench by the Valet Curb.
    • When you arrive at the Valet Curb, your child should be ready to exit the car from the passenger side of the vehicle.  IF a passenger side exit from your vehicle is unavailable, your child must wait until a valet volunteer opens the driver side door and escorts them in front of your car onto the curb.
    • Under no circumstances should the driver exit the vehicle.
    • Do not pull around cars in the valet line including at the Valet Curb.  The line is single file from the east gate entrance  through to the west gate exit.  Please wait your turn to drop off your child and to exit campus.
    • FINALLY, be patient and kind.  The valet volunteers and LAUSD staff are there for the safety of your children.  Please treat them, the children, and the other drivers with respect.

    IMPORTANT FOR ALL FAMILIES!!!

All parents, new and returning, must complete a Household Income Form (HIF) to maximize our school's funding for the next 4 years. In order to qualify for the 4 years of funding, we must have all applications for new and returning students completed by October 30, 2023. Please click here to complete the form online or drop by the main office to pick up an application.

To date, 76% of Community families have completed the Household Income Form.  Thank you for your support!

We're counting on our final 24%.
    REMEMBER, we need 100%.
    WE CAN DO IT!!

    IMMUNIZATION COMPLIANCE

All students enrolled in California schools must present immunization records or medical exemption documentation upon admission to school unless there are special circumstances. In order to assist parents in providing immunization records, LAUSD has launched Vive's Immunization Assistant Tool. Parents must have a Parent Portal account to access this helpful tool. (Click here to watch a quick video on how to create a Parent Portal account.)  The state of California no longer allows religious or personal belief exemptions (Health and Safety Code section 120325). Only medical exemptions are allowed.
