5th Graders Are Headed to AstroCamp

 

Our 5th graders are off to AstroCamp this week! This overnight camp has been a tradition at Community for over 20 years. The camp is in Idyllwild, nestled in the San Jacinto Mountains. The beautiful 80-acre campus is found on the edge of a mountain meadow surrounded by pine, oak, and manzanita trees. Facilities and labs offer state-of-the-art equipment for exploring physical and earth sciences and the natural world.

Students will explore the sciences of physics and astronomy through fun, exciting, and educational activities that allow them to explore science in an engaging and hands-on way, while developing as individuals and bonding with classmates. AstroCamp fosters a sense of wonder and builds lifelong memories. Thank you to our 5th grade teachers, parents, and staff for providing this enriching learning experience for our students.

SIX-WEEK INVITATIONAL CONFERENCES

The Six-Week Invitational Parent Conferences will be held September 18-22. Kindergarten conferences

are mandatory. Conferences for Grades 1-5 are by invitation. If your child's teacher has not invited you to a parent conference, please feel free to contact them if you would like to have a conference. 

MINIMUM DAY DISMISSAL

Students will be dismissed at 12:45 p.m. on September 20th. Please plan pick-ups accordingly.

*Returning families are asked to download and complete the 2023-24 documents and forms for returning families, then send the forms with your student to school during the first week to turn in to the classroom teacher.

IMPORTANT FOR ALL FAMILIES!!!

All parents, new and returning, must complete a Household Income Form (HIF) to maximize our school's funding for the next 4 years. In order to qualify for the 4 years of funding, we must have all applications for new and returning students completed by October 30, 2023. Please click here to complete the form online or drop by the main office to pick up an application.

To date, 99% of Community families have completed the Household Income Form.  Thank you for your support!

We're counting on our final 1% (just 1 family).

VALET RULES

For the SAFETY of your child and ALL children and parents at CMCS, if you are driving your child to school you MUST follow these valet rules. 
• Arrive at CMCS between 7:30 and 8:00
• Enter through the gate on the EAST side of the school.
• Drive along the left curb.  The right curb is a bus lane whether or not the buses have arrived.
• Wait patiently in a single file line along the left curb of the driveway.
• When a valet volunteer or LAUSD staff directs you, turn right at the parking lot and pull up to the Valet Curb.  There can be a maximum of 3 cars at the Valet Curb.  
• Under no circumstances can you park with your child and walk them through the parking lot. If, especially during these first weeks of school, you want to walk your child to the front gate, you MUST drop your child at the Valet Curb and then park your car.  Your child can wait for you near the valet volunteers on the bench by the Valet Curb.
• When you arrive at the Valet Curb, your child should be ready to exit the car from the passenger side of the vehicle.  IF a passenger side exit from your vehicle is unavailable, your child must wait until a valet volunteer opens the driver side door and escorts them in front of your car onto the curb.
• Under no circumstances should the driver exit the vehicle.
• Do not pull around cars in the valet line including at the Valet Curb.  The line is single file from the east gate entrance  through to the west gate exit.  Please wait your turn to drop off your child and to exit campus.
• FINALLY, be patient and kind.  The valet volunteers and LAUSD staff are there for the safety of your children.  Please treat them, the children, and the other drivers with respect.
  








IMMUNIZATION COMPLIANCE

All students enrolled in California schools must present immunization records or medical exemption documentation upon admission to school unless there are special circumstances. In order to assist parents in providing immunization records, LAUSD has launched Vive's Immunization Assistant Tool. Parents must have a Parent Portal account to access this helpful tool. (Click here to watch a quick video on how to create a Parent Portal account.)  The state of California no longer allows religious or personal belief exemptions (Health and Safety Code section 120325). Only medical exemptions are allowed.
