MUSICAL THEATER UPDATE:

Due to overwhelming demand, we may be able to offer a second day of after-school musical theater.        Those who are currently on the waitlist will be registered first for this extra day. Please be aware that participation is limited. Stay tuned for confirmation.

Thank you to all of the parents who came out to learn about our Math Kangaroo Club! There will be a follow-up Q&A session on Tuesday, December 5th at 7pm. Click here to join the meeting.

The Math Kangaroo Club will begin on Monday, January 8th, our first day back from Winter Break and will continue every Monday (except holidays and Spring Break) through May 20th. 

Once we have a complete roster of participants, a survey will be sent to determine the number of late buses needed, so no worries if you are unable to pick up your child from campus. 


Here is the tentative schedule for Kangaroo Math Club Mondays:

2:30 - 2:45pm - snacks, restroom break
2:45 - 4:15pm - Math Kangaroo Club 
4:15pm  - Valet pick-up
4:30pm - Bus departures

Parent volunteers are needed to ensure success of the Kangaroo Math Club. Please email cmcsmathclub@gmail.com if you are available to volunteer on Mondays, 2:30pm - 5:00pm.

All parents are invited to monthly workshops featuring topics to help your child achieve academically. Workshops will be facilitated by UCLA experts in the particular field of study.

VALET RULES



    For the SAFETY of your child and ALL children and parents at CMCS, if you are driving your child to school you MUST follow these valet rules. 
    • Arrive at CMCS between 7:30 and 8:00
    • Enter through the gate on the EAST side of the school.
    • Drive along the left curb.  The right curb is a bus lane whether or not the buses have arrived.
    • Wait patiently in a single file line along the left curb of the driveway.
    • When a valet volunteer or LAUSD staff directs you, turn right at the parking lot and pull up to the Valet Curb.  There can be a maximum of 3 cars at the Valet Curb.  
    • Under no circumstances can you park with your child and walk them through the parking lot. If, especially during these first weeks of school, you want to walk your child to the front gate, you MUST drop your child at the Valet Curb and then park your car.  Your child can wait for you near the valet volunteers on the bench by the Valet Curb.
    • When you arrive at the Valet Curb, your child should be ready to exit the car from the passenger side of the vehicle.  IF a passenger side exit from your vehicle is unavailable, your child must wait until a valet volunteer opens the driver side door and escorts them in front of your car onto the curb.
    • Under no circumstances should the driver exit the vehicle.
    • Do not pull around cars in the valet line including at the Valet Curb.  The line is single file from the east gate entrance  through to the west gate exit.  Please wait your turn to drop off your child and to exit campus.
    • FINALLY, be patient and kind.  The valet volunteers and LAUSD staff are there for the safety of your children.  Please treat them, the children, and the other drivers with respect.

  Back-to-School Night is next week! It will be a very busy night for parents as we introduce our teachers and our new CFF board members, check out the classrooms and textbooks, and learn what our students will be doing and learning this school year. Parents will be asked to sign up for committees and/or Room Parent positions. Community Council nominees will introduce themselves before ballot voting at each grade level. While this event will be a busy and exciting night for parents, that's not necessarily the case for the students! Since they do  not actively participate in this event, they will have an especially long day at school. For these reasons, we ask that you please plan to  make childcare arrangements away from campus. There will be no childcare or supervision available at Back-to-School night. IMPORTANT NEWS REGARDING THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

Dear Community Families, Over the weekend, I was notified that Got Game Camp, our after-school program, would be taking a temporary pause in operation effective immediately. Coach K has contacted all affected families and he and his team are working around the clock to get the program back up and running as soon as possible. We wish them the best of luck in this endeavor and hope for their quick return. Got Game has been a very supportive partner to Community Magnet over the years and has proven time and time again to be a stable and reliable program. However, I understand that many of our families depend on consistent after-school care and are in immediate need of another option. I have been working throughout the weekend to ensure that there would be no interruption in after-school care at Community for those families. I appreciate the immediate response and support  from LAUSD Operations and Beyond the Bell  in helping to find an after-school program for Community as we wait for Got
