Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Happy Sunday, Community Families,

This upcoming week will be a busy one. Digital Citizenship week kicks off on Monday with classroom lessons and activities focused on what it means to be a digital citizen. Students learn important digital skills, such as how to communicate respectfully online, how to protect their privacy, and how to identify reliable sources of information. Check out the family resources below to help support your child's path to digital citizenship.

We celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month this week with fun-filled spirit days, cultural presentations from our 3rd and 4th grade classes, and school-wide assemblies. Make sure your child joins in the fun by participating in Hispanic Heritage Spirit Week.

The International Great Shake Out is this Thursday. Every staff and student will participate in this drill as we practice with various scenarios in mind. The drill begins with simulated earthquake audio playing over the PA system. At this signal, teachers and students drop, cover and hold on in their classrooms until the "shaking" stops. Then, they evacuate quickly and quietly to the upper yard where teams account for all student and staff. Then, our various emergency teams, made up of CMCS staff members, jump into action. Please shoot me an email if you'd like to participate.

There has been a lot of concern about the school buses, schedules, and transportation, among other things. Kathryn and I will host TeaTime with Toni together this Friday to hear your concerns and answer your questions. Please help us prepare by sending in your questions and concerns ahead of time using the link below. The parent meeting scheduled to immediately follow Teatime has been postponed to November.

We are looking forward to the busy week ahead!

Best,
Toni

YMCA Youth Hockey League.

The YMCA, in partnership with the LA Kings hockey team, is offering free Youth Ball Hockey leagues and clinics at YMCAs throughout Los Angeles County. The LA Kings Youth Ball Hockey leagues are available for youth ages 4-14. A YMCA membership is not required to participate. All gear, including safety equipment, hockey sticks, and balls, is provided at no extra cost. The only responsibility for parents or caregivers is to bring their child to the local YMCA for practices and games. Practices are typically one evening per week, with games and scrimmages held on Friday nights or Saturday mornings/afternoons. Click links for English and Spanish flyers. This is not an LAUSD-sponsored/endorsed event.
