May 12-23 GRADES 3-5 Make-Up Tests
Dear Community Families,
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) testing period begins at our school this week. I want to take a moment to share why these assessments matter and how we can work together to support our students during this important time.
The CAASPP assessments are designed to measure how well students are mastering California’s academic standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics. These standards are built to ensure students graduate with the critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills they need for college and career readiness.
CAASPP results help us as a school community in several ways:
-
They provide valuable feedback on student progress and highlight areas of strength and growth.
-
They guide our instructional decisions and help us tailor learning experiences to better meet student needs.
-
They support accountability and continuous improvement for our school.
While testing is only one measure of student learning, it is an important tool in helping us ensure all students are on the path to success.
Here are a few simple yet powerful ways you can support your child:
-
Encourage a positive mindset. Remind your child that the test is a chance to show what they know and how much they’ve grown.
-
Prioritize rest. A good night’s sleep is one of the best ways to help students feel alert and confident on testing days.
-
Eat a healthy breakfast. A nutritious meal fuels the brain and helps students stay focused.
-
Be on time. Arriving to school on time reduces stress and helps students start the day with a calm and focused mind.
-
Celebrate effort. Whether the results are strong or still growing, acknowledge your child’s hard work and perseverance.
We are incredibly proud of our students and the dedication they show each day. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping them reach their highest potential. If you have any questions about CAASPP testing or how to best support your child, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Best,
Toni

CMCS ROOFING PROJECT UPDATE
Community's Roofing Project will begin on Saturday, April 26, with the mobilization phase. During this phase, equipment will be delivered and staging begins. There will be two staging areas, one at the entrance to the service road just north of the visitor's parking lot and one on the upper yard. Roofers will work on one building at a time beginning with rooms 21, 22, 23, and 26 between Wednesday, April 30-Friday, May 2. While fencing will be constructed around these buildings during demo/installation, staff and students will have access to the classrooms during the school day. During state testing, both demolitions and installations will occur between 2pm-10:30pm. There should be little to no impact to staff or students. The roofing project should be completed by December, 2025.
Exciting News- Our School Website is Getting an Upgrade
Within the next 30 days, our current school website, communitymagnet.org, will be replaced with a new Edlio-powered website, in alignment with LAUSD requirements. This transition ensures consistency across all LAUSD school websites while improving accessibility and functionality for our community.
Stay tuned for more details about our new site—we’ll share updates soon.
- Arrive at CMCS between 7:30 and 8:00
- Enter through the gate on the EAST side of the school.
- Drive along the left curb. The right curb is a bus lane whether or not the buses have arrived.
- Wait patiently in a single file line along the left curb of the driveway.
- When a valet volunteer or LAUSD staff directs you, turn right at the parking lot and pull up to the Valet Curb. There can be a maximum of 3 cars at the Valet Curb.
- Under no circumstances can you park with your child and walk them through the parking lot. If, especially during these first weeks of school, you want to walk your child to the front gate, you MUST drop your child at the Valet Curb and then park your car. Your child can wait for you near the valet volunteers on the bench by the Valet Curb.
- When you arrive at the Valet Curb, your child should be ready to exit the car from the passenger side of the vehicle. IF a passenger side exit from your vehicle is unavailable, your child must wait until a valet volunteer opens the driver side door and escorts them in front of your car onto the curb.
- Under no circumstances should the driver exit the vehicle.
- Do not pull around cars in the valet line including at the Valet Curb. The line is single file from the east gate entrance through to the west gate exit. Please wait your turn to drop off your child and to exit campus.
- FINALLY, be patient and kind. The valet volunteers and LAUSD staff are there for the safety of your children. Please treat them, the children, and the other drivers with respect.
