Thursday is Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day

NO SCHOOL

April 24, 2025

Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day is a special day on April 24th when people around the world remember something very sad that happened a long time ago.

Over 100 years ago, during a time of war, many Armenian families were treated very unfairly and many people lost their lives. This is called the Armenian Genocide. On this day, we honor and remember those who were hurt, and we think about the importance of kindness, fairness, and standing up for others.

People might visit memorials, light candles, or share stories to make sure we never forget what happened—and to help build a world where everyone is treated with respect and love.

Happy Sunday, Community Families,

Welcome Back!

I hope you had a restful and refreshing Spring Break and are feeling recharged for the final, fast-paced weeks of the school year.

We’re heading into a tight End-of-Year (EOY) and SBA testing window, which runs from April 21 through May 30. It’s essential that your child is at school on time every day, ready for testing. Your support in ensuring strong attendance during this period is greatly appreciated!

Before the break, we wrapped up with a whirlwind of fun and success:

  • Literacy Night (our first in years!) was a huge hit—families left smiling, informed, and loaded with goodies.

  • Open House brought such contagious energy and excitement—it was wonderful to see our school community shining.

  • Pump It Up was the perfect way to send everyone into the break on a high note! The energy carried throughout the day, and the photos say it all—check them out!

A few quick updates:

  • Tutoring wraps up on April 23, which also marks the end of after-school transportation for the year, except for CAP field trips.

  • Our roofing project kicks off this Friday with setup and deliveries. Work on the auditorium will begin next week.

  • The Region West STEAMFest is happening Saturday, April 26! Come out and support our talented 5th graders performing their Conga Dances, and don’t miss the stunning artwork from Kathleen’s art classes on display!

We’re excited to see all our students back on campus and ready to finish the year strong—let’s make every day count!

Let’s Finish Strong!

Best,

Toni

MATH KANGAROO CLUB 2026

We're already planning for next year's Math Kangaroo Club! We need to know if your child will be participating next year. Please complete this MATH KANGAROO CLUB INTEREST SURVEY to let us know!

ALSO . . .

The Beast Academy online subscriptions will expire soon. Last summer, Mathclub with the help of CFF was able to provide a math learning opportunity with AoPS's Beast Academy math curriculum. They offered the school a group discount for a yearly subscription at $66 dollars. (Normal price $99).

We have been using this math curriculum in our club meetings prior to competition. It really helps build a strong mathematical foundation. It is a fantastic math program! And families can use it during the summer hiatus to prepare for next year.

Please let us know if this is a resource your child would be interested in using by taking this

Thank you!

CMCS ROOFING PROJECT UPDATE

Community's Roofing Project will begin on Friday, April 25, after 3:00pm with the mobilization phase. During this phase, equipment will be delivered and staging begins. There will be two staging areas, one at the entrance to the service road just north of the visitor's parking lot and one on the upper yard.  Roofers will work on one building at a time beginning with the Martha Melinda Auditorium on Monday, April 28. Demolitions will occur between 4pm-6pm and installations will occur between 7am-3pm. There should be little to no impact to staff or students. The roofing project should be completed by December, 2025.

Exciting News- Our School Website is Getting an Upgrade

Within the next 30 days, our current school website, communitymagnet.org, will be replaced with a new Edlio-powered website, in alignment with LAUSD requirements. This transition ensures consistency across all LAUSD school websites while improving accessibility and functionality for our community.

Stay tuned for more details about our new site—we’ll share updates soon.

VALET RULES

For the SAFETY of your child and ALL children and parents at CMCS, if you are driving your child to school you MUST follow these valet rules.
    • Arrive at CMCS between 7:30 and 8:00
    • Enter through the gate on the EAST side of the school.
    • Drive along the left curb.  The right curb is a bus lane whether or not the buses have arrived.
    • Wait patiently in a single file line along the left curb of the driveway.
    • When a valet volunteer or LAUSD staff directs you, turn right at the parking lot and pull up to the Valet Curb.  There can be a maximum of 3 cars at the Valet Curb.
    • Under no circumstances can you park with your child and walk them through the parking lot. If, especially during these first weeks of school, you want to walk your child to the front gate, you MUST drop your child at the Valet Curb and then park your car.  Your child can wait for you near the valet volunteers on the bench by the Valet Curb.
    • When you arrive at the Valet Curb, your child should be ready to exit the car from the passenger side of the vehicle.  IF a passenger side exit from your vehicle is unavailable, your child must wait until a valet volunteer opens the driver side door and escorts them in front of your car onto the curb.
    • Under no circumstances should the driver exit the vehicle.
    • Do not pull around cars in the valet line including at the Valet Curb.  The line is single file from the east gate entrance  through to the west gate exit.  Please wait your turn to drop off your child and to exit campus.
    • FINALLY, be patient and kind.  The valet volunteers and LAUSD staff are there for the safety of your children.  Please treat them, the children, and the other drivers with respect.
