We appreciate our teachers, staff, bus drivers, and parent volunteers!
Dear Community Magnet Families,
As we approach the end of the school year, I find myself reflecting with deep gratitude on the joy, growth, and success we’ve experienced together. It continues to be an incredible honor to serve as principal of this remarkable school community.
This year has been particularly special. We were proudly named a 2025 California Distinguished School and honored with the 2025 Magnet Schools of America Merit Award. These recognitions are a reflection of our shared commitment to excellence—from our brilliant students to our supportive families and our extraordinary staff. We have so much to celebrate.
To our amazing students: thank you for your curiosity, kindness, and courage. You are the heartbeat of Community Magnet, and watching you thrive brings us all great pride.
To our families: thank you for your unwavering support and for partnering with us in your child’s educational journey. Your involvement makes all the difference.
To our exceptional staff: your passion, dedication, and love for our students are evident in everything you do. You are the foundation of our school’s continued success.
This week, as we celebrate Appreciation Week, I want to take a moment to recognize four beloved members of our team who will be retiring at the end of the school year. Their service, compassion, and leadership have shaped the very spirit of our school.
Phyllis, our Magnet Coordinator, has been a trusted guide for families entering and exiting our school community. From welcoming new families with grace to supporting fifth-grade students in their transition to middle school, Phyllis has done it all with deep knowledge, heart, and care.
Kathryn, always the embodiment of grace and kindness, has been the dependable backbone of our school. Whether answering questions, solving problems, or spreading cheer, she brings warmth and energy to every day.
Alice has played a vital role as the link between our school and our Korean families. Her attention to detail, communication, and organizational support have helped every program run smoothly and with inclusivity at the forefront.
Maria, affectionately known as Mama Maria, has been the heart of our front office and a caregiver to all of us. With her nurturing presence and steady hand, she’s kept our daily operations running smoothly while making each of us feel seen and supported.
Their departure will undoubtedly leave a big hole in our hearts—but their legacy will forever be part of the Community Magnet story. They have each helped make this school what it is: a nurturing, joyful, and safe place for students to learn and grow.
As we celebrate Appreciation Week, I want to extend my sincerest thanks to these remarkable women—and to every member of our school family. It is a privilege to serve as your principal, and I am deeply grateful for the love, dedication, and excellence that define our Community.
With heartfelt love and appreciation,
Toni
Nothing but love, happiness, joy, friendship, and fun!

Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that celebrates a big victory by the Mexican army on May 5, 1862. On that day, a small group of Mexican soldiers won a battle against a much larger French army in the town of Puebla. Today, people celebrate Cinco de Mayo with music, dancing, yummy food, and fun activities to honor Mexican culture and history!

CMCS ROOFING PROJECT UPDATE
The roof project began on Friday, May 2. While access to the buildings will remain available, certain rooms will be fenced off during the work. The demolition and installation will proceed in phases: starting with the first grade area. Rooms 21–22 will be completed first, followed by 23–24, and then Room 26. Completion of work in the first grade area is expected by Thursday, May 8. During testing, work won't begin until 3:00pm each day.
Exciting News- Our School Website is Getting an Upgrade
Within the next 30 days, our current school website, communitymagnet.org, will be replaced with a new Edlio-powered website, in alignment with LAUSD requirements. This transition ensures consistency across all LAUSD school websites while improving accessibility and functionality for our community.
Stay tuned for more details about our new site—we’ll share updates soon.
- Arrive at CMCS between 7:30 and 8:00
- Enter through the gate on the EAST side of the school.
- Drive along the left curb. The right curb is a bus lane whether or not the buses have arrived.
- Wait patiently in a single file line along the left curb of the driveway.
- When a valet volunteer or LAUSD staff directs you, turn right at the parking lot and pull up to the Valet Curb. There can be a maximum of 3 cars at the Valet Curb.
- Under no circumstances can you park with your child and walk them through the parking lot. If, especially during these first weeks of school, you want to walk your child to the front gate, you MUST drop your child at the Valet Curb and then park your car. Your child can wait for you near the valet volunteers on the bench by the Valet Curb.
- When you arrive at the Valet Curb, your child should be ready to exit the car from the passenger side of the vehicle. IF a passenger side exit from your vehicle is unavailable, your child must wait until a valet volunteer opens the driver side door and escorts them in front of your car onto the curb.
- Under no circumstances should the driver exit the vehicle.
- Do not pull around cars in the valet line including at the Valet Curb. The line is single file from the east gate entrance through to the west gate exit. Please wait your turn to drop off your child and to exit campus.
- FINALLY, be patient and kind. The valet volunteers and LAUSD staff are there for the safety of your children. Please treat them, the children, and the other drivers with respect.
