Happy Pride Month!
JUNE IS PRIDE MONTH
Pride Month is a celebration of being yourself, showing kindness to others, and making sure everyone feels included, respected, and loved for who they are. 🌈
Celebrating Pride:
Poet Jen Cheng Visits Our School
We are thrilled to announce that Jen Cheng, Educator and Poet, will be performing at our annual Pride Assembly on June 4th!
A cross-pollinator and community curator, Jen creates work for diverse audiences—from tween readers to mystery detective fans to those seeking queer love stories. And if you're lucky enough to catch her talking about her poet dog, she just might sing you a song parody!
Learn more about Jen at JenCvoice.com or follow her on social media @JenCvoice.
During our Pride Assembly, Jen will share poetry from celebrated writers like Emily Dickinson and Audre Lorde, as well as her own work, including her powerful "Prayer of Light" poem—a beautiful piece featuring a call-and-response component that invites student participation.
This year's Pride celebration focuses on understanding the history and significance of Pride. Students across all grades have been creating blow art projects that will be displayed as a stunning collage in the auditorium. Following Jen's performance, students will participate in a mini Pride parade complete with signs, music, and rainbow cupcakes!
We can't wait to celebrate.
Happy Pride! 🌈
Dear Community Families,
As part of our AAPI Heritage Month celebrations, our students enjoyed a special cultural assembly featuring the Thai Music Ensemble from UCLA, led by Professor Supeena Insee Adler. Professor Adler serves as the Director of the Music of Thailand Ensemble at UCLA and is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology, as well as a World Music Instrument Curator and Conservator at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. Students were treated to a vibrant performance showcasing the rich traditions of Thai music and dance. The program included the graceful Umbrella Dance, a captivating live solo instrumental performance, and the energetic Long Drum Dance. Through music, movement, and storytelling, students gained a deeper appreciation for Thai culture and the diverse traditions that enrich our global community. We are grateful to Professor Adler and the UCLA Thai Music Ensemble for sharing their talents and helping us celebrate the contributions and cultures of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. After this amazing performance, students were treated to delicious Thai mango sticky rice!
A very special thank you to Thanatcha Anderson for organizing this memorable experience for our students, as well as to her team for helping make the event extra special.
Children's Day 2026 was a huge success! We were blessed with beautiful weather, treated to creative and fun booths, and wowed by amazing dance performances. Our deepest gratitude goes to the parents, teachers, and students who dedicated their time and energy to creating such a memorable day for our school community! Check out next week's blog for more information and pics.
Thanks to Kim Murtaugh for providing the entire Talent Show video! It was an amazing show, so all thanks to Kate and Kathi for working with the crew and performers, organizing the show, and making it spectacular!

If your student’s after-school plans change, please complete this Bus Book Form before 12:00 p.m.
Our goal is to get students safely and efficiently to their buses, valet, or after-school activities—and your help truly makes a difference.
Here’s how you can help IN 2 easy steps:
By following these steps, you’re helping us keep dismissal safe, organized, and on time—so students get home sooner and buses can return for late pickup more quickly.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in keeping our students safe and our afternoons running smoothly!
- Arrive at CMCS between 7:30 and 8:00
- Enter through the gate on the EAST side of the school.
- Drive along the left curb. The right curb is a bus lane whether or not the buses have arrived.
- Wait patiently in a single file line along the left curb of the driveway.
- When a valet volunteer or LAUSD staff directs you, turn right at the parking lot and pull up to the Valet Curb. There can be a maximum of 3 cars at the Valet Curb.
- Under no circumstances can you park with your child and walk them through the parking lot. If, especially during these first weeks of school, you want to walk your child to the front gate, you MUST drop your child at the Valet Curb and then park your car. Your child can wait for you near the valet volunteers on the bench by the Valet Curb.
- When you arrive at the Valet Curb, your child should be ready to exit the car from the passenger side of the vehicle. IF a passenger side exit from your vehicle is unavailable, your child must wait until a valet volunteer opens the driver side door and escorts them in front of your car onto the curb.
- Under no circumstances should the driver exit the vehicle.
- Do not pull around cars in the valet line including at the Valet Curb. The line is single file from the east gate entrance through to the west gate exit. Please wait your turn to drop off your child and to exit campus.
- FINALLY, be patient and kind. The valet volunteers and LAUSD staff are there for the safety of your children. Please treat them, the children, and the other drivers with respect.
