AstroCamp, Technology, and the Week Ahead

Hello Community Families, I'd first like to say THANK YOU to KATHYRN for putting the AstroCamp trip together and to the FIFTH GRADE TEAM: DANIELLE, KIRSTEN, AND BRANDON for keeping it all together throughout the entire trip. None of it is easy and yet this team makes it look easy and FUN! Our fifth graders had a BLAST at AstroCamp and the experience was well worth it. And THANK YOU to the 5th grade parents for being SO patient and supportive! We appreciate you! The second Tea Time with Toni was this past Friday and the topic was Technology. We talked a little about managing screen time and learned about the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards. We looked at a Social Science lesson to see how the ISTE standards were integrated. A few of the parents pointed out, however, that this was not a real lesson being taught in a CMCS classroom. CMCS parents want to know what is really happening in CMCS classrooms with technology. This past week, our offic

Important Reminders and Thank Yous!

Good Evening Community Families, As you know, we teach our students to always BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE, AND BE TRUSTWORTHY! Sometimes, we as adults, need gentle reminders, too! Here is a very important reminder about Valet Safety . Please read and heed : It is imperative that everyone follow proper procedure with regard to the valet service. It has come to our attention that parents are walking students from the school to cars parked in the visitor’s lot and walking with students between the parked buses. For the safety of ALL students, please abide by the following rules both in the morning (7:30-8:15) and afternoon (2:15-3:00): 1. DO NOT enter through the exit gate. Enter only through the east gate. 2. Children are NOT allowed in the parking lot during the carpool hours (7:30am-8:15am and      2:15pm-3:00pm). 3. ALL students should load and unload at the curbside only. In the morning, please drop your student at the valet curb, and then park in the visitor’

Neighborhood Events and Picture Day!

Dear Parents, Students, and Friends of Community Magnet Charter School, Back-to-School Night was the highlight of last week! It was great to see you all come out to get to know your new teachers, learn about the new curriculum, and see what's new on campus. Congratulations again to our new Community Council parent representatives and CFF room parents! Meetings for both groups are coming up soon. The weather has been HOT! The Lost and Found racks are full of sweaters and jackets and even a couple of cute little skirts! Please remind your little ones to check the rack for their lost items to bring home. When you're on campus, don't forget to check the rack yourself, for your little one is sure to forget. Many of the items are labelled with the names of the owners, which is a great idea! This week comes with a few opportunities to schmooze, mingle, and get to know other parents in your neighborhood! It's also a great way to learn how you can help the students at CMCS

Thank you for your Support!

Happy Labor Day, Community Families and Staff, I hope you are taking full advantage of this wonderful four-day weekend and fabulous California weather with your friends and families.  You certainly do deserve it! In the spirit of this Labor Day weekend, I want to express my sincere gratitude to all of the parents, friends, and staff that work so hard to make CMCS such a wonderful learning community for our students.  At Tea Time with Toni, I mentioned a few of the "daunting tasks" we needed to complete before distributing devices to our students and shared student performance data from the state assessments. Well, wouldn't you know that a few parents jumped right in to help by organizing paperwork, spiffing up computer carts, researching computer cart prices, and meeting with me to strategize ways to improve achievement?! There is so much that Community parents do for all of our students. I really want you to know how much you are truly appreciated! We all want to co
