Spring Events and Important Reminders
* Don't forget to Spring Forward this weekend! *
Hello Community Family,
It's the second week of March and time is flying by! There are plenty of Spring Events to keep us busy this month. Read all about them . . .
Grandparents Day
Another Community Magnet CS tradition, Grandparents Day, is this Tuesday, March 10, 9:45-12:30.
All grandparents are invited to visit campus and spend the day with your special little one(s) and their classmates. Don't miss out on the fun! Click here to register.
Invitational Parent Conferences
Take this opportunity to meet with your child's teacher and check up on academic progress, behavior, and any concerns you or the teacher may have. Conferences may be scheduled any day this week, March 9-13. CMCS will observe a minimum day schedule with a 12:45 dismissal on Wednesday, March 11 and Thursday, March 12. Please be sure to confirm after school care for your child on these days as other schools may not follow the same minimum day schedule.
Book Fair Tips and Answers to FAQs
Note from the Principal: Please be sure to remind children that it is not ok to take any of the book fair items without paying for them. If they witness anyone taking what does not belong to them at the fair, they may either tell the person that it's not the right thing to do and encourage them to return the items and/or they may tell an adult.
Pump It Up!
Tea Time with Phyllis
Phyllis, magnet coordinator, hosted Tea Time this past Friday, March 6th. The topic was OLSAT testing for second grade (March 18th) and the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program. Check Fresh Schools: Papers & Documents soon to access the presentation.
Enrichment Project:
A few parents have expressed an interest in the enrichment programs offered at CMCS. Who are the teachers? What are they like? What do they teach? Do the students like it? Well, I think the best answers to these questions will come from the students themselves. In the next few weeks, the Enrichment Project will become a part of Community Corner, focusing on one enrichment class each week. Stay tuned!
Spring Beautification Day
Spring Beautification Day has been approved! We have two dates up for consideration and I'd like to know which works best for our Beautification volunteers: Saturday, April 25 or Sunday, April 26?? A few parents felt that since the Fall Beautification Day was held on a Saturday, this one should be held on a Sunday. What do you think? If you're available that weekend to participate, please take a minute to vote for the day that works best for you. Our Green Team is planning to make this a true GREEN event in honor of Earth Day (April 22nd). Stay tuned for more information! Click here to vote on the best date and give input for our Spring Beautification Day.
Reminders:
Health & Safety: As an extra precaution this flu season, CMCS is following these healthy practices: 1) students wash hands before and after activities involving physical contact or contact with shared objects; 2) students are reminded not to touch their faces, eyes, mouths, or noses; 3) classes are encouraged to wipe down desks and high-touch areas in the classroom daily; 4) students are reminded to use the "Vampire Method" or tissue to catch sneezes and coughs; 5) we have purchased CDC-recommended hand sanitizer, wipes, and sanitizing spray for every classroom; 6) restroom fixtures are sanitized twice daily and high-touch areas, including the playground structure, are sanitized daily.
While daily attendance is very important, the health and safety of all students and staff on campus are even more important. Please keep your child home for at least 24 hours after symptoms of fever, diarrhea, and/or vomiting have passed.
Sugary Treats: I received a question from a parent asking if sugary snacks were banned from campus. I've learned that this questions has come up several times in the past few years and even a vote was taken on the matter. The official word is that snacks containing sugar and other snacks are allowed when celebrating birthdays or special events. However, if you would rather your child not partake in these types of snacks, write a note to the teacher and provide an alternative snack for your child on the day of the event. Outside of special events, sugary snacks and treats are discouraged on campus.
CMCS Norm: Go to the Source! This is one CMCS norm that I really have come to appreciate! When I have a question, concern, or complaint, I find that the best way to get the answers I need or to clear up a misunderstanding is to communicate directly with the person with whom I have a concern. I am finding that confusion and misunderstandings are exacerbated when I don't take that first, very important step. So, my new favorite phrase will be, "Did you go to the source?"

Pump It Up!
Pump It Up was a SMASHING success!!! Parent organizers, Kate and Angel, went way out to make sure that everyone was pumped up and ready for an exhilarating, heart-pounding walk on the upper yard of the campus. The course included several colorful "obstacles" to make this the most fun and entertaining walk ever! The weather couldn't have been better. Lots of parents were on hand to cheer their little superheroes and super-heroines on through six or more arduous laps around the course.

Super heroes/heroines were super-soaked by their parents!! |
