First Confirmed COVID Cases at CMCS

Image
Good afternoon Community Families, This has been a rough two weeks for parents who are eager to get their kids back in school to learn and interact with their friends and classmates, but at the same time nervous and afraid that they will be exposed to the Coronavirus. We've welcomed all 420 of our unvaccinated 5-10 year-old students back to school after 18-months of school closures/hybrid school. Our school community is very fortunate to get through the first two weeks of school with no positive cases! I consider that a WIN!! But, alas, our good fortune has run out as we were slammed with 5 positive cases confirmed by our on-site testing program this past Friday.  (Though, whatever website parents are viewing shows 6 cases, please remember that one of those is the false positive case that I've referred to several times now.) As we undoubtedly will continue to have positive cases on campus, we will need to have patience with the notification process. The process includes inter...

SAFETY FIRST and UPCOMING EVENTS

Image
Good evening Community Families, Our first week of school flew by so quickly! Only a handful of our students opted for the online City of Angels program, so we welcomed most of our students back to in-person instruction this week. And what a week it's been! We're all geared up and ready for Week 2! SAFETY FIRST!! My biggest concern this week has been traffic safety. Many families are still hesitant to send their students on the buses, so our valet lines have been longer than ever. This has caused some traffic concerns. 1) In order to avoid the long valet line, some families park on the street and walk up to campus. Students have been observed running ahead of or trailing far behind their parents. Frustrated drivers sometimes aggressively swerve into the opposite lanes to speed past the long line of cars and its not always easy to see what's ahead. It's an accident waiting to happen, so  parents are advised to be alert and keep their children very close as they cross t...

What You Need to Know for Back-to-School

Image
Good afternoon Community Families, Well, school is in and we are as ready as can be to welcome our students back! I know there are very mixed feelings about this return to school. LAUSD is preparing plans B & C and will let us know what and if school opening plans need to shift. For now, we're all good to go. I'd like to put your minds a little more at ease. You should know that we are following the guidance and recommendations of the CDC. LAUSD has mandated vaccinations for all employees effective October 15 and all staff and students will be tested on-site weekly. Most students and staff have tested for the return to school and  I've been monitoring these baseline COVID test results. I am so happy to announce that so far there has not been a single positive case for CMCS staff and students tested between 8/2 - 8/13.  I will continue to monitor late tests coming in this weekend. If we do have a positive case, here are the protocols we follow:

2021-2022 WELCOME BACK TOUR

Welcome to the new school year, Community Families!  We are so excited to welcome families, new and old, back to campus for a full in-person return on Monday, August 16th!! As we countdown to the first day of school, the entire CMCS Community has been preparing for this amazing year ahead.  Summer Playdates Were a Blast! Thanks to our CFF team, CMCS families had three opportunities to meet one another, strike up new friendships, and have FUN! Playdates were held in the valley, West LA, and mid-city to give everyone a chance to get in on the fun. It was wonderful to see children running, playing together, and bonding. As you can see by these pics, a great time was had by all!!!
