Cesar Chavez Day

Image
CESAR CHAVEZ “We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community.” - Cesar Chavez On Monday, March 28th, school will be closed in honor of Cesar Chavez. Every year, the state of California recognizes him on his birthday, March 31. Chavez was a Mexican-American civil rights leader who fought for the rights of farm workers in the United States. How can students and families honor Cesar Chavez and farm workers across the United States? One way is to plant a vegetable garden or learn the words to  De Colores , the anthem of the United Farmworkers of America, an organization founded by Cesar Chavez and other early organizers.

For the Pump It Up – March to Fitness, we are challenging CMCS students, teachers, and families to get fit and to get PUMPED! We want all of our students to do an hour of physical activity a day AND complete the daily fitness activities on the calendar. Too busy to exercise for a full hour? Not to worry - our students already get exercise at school! Encourage them to do an additional 15-30 mins. of physical activity after school – ride a bike, play tag, jump rope… the choices are ENDLESS!
