 APPRECIATION DAYS

Appreciation Week is coming right up, and we need your help! Please encourage your student to write a card, letter, or draw a picture to let their teacher, TA, and/or other staff member know how much the work they do for our school is valued. These messages will be delivered on Tuesday, May 3rd during a luncheon in their honor. The deadline for turning in your cards and letters is Monday, May 2nd. We are trying to keep this a surprise…shhhh! Send your messages in an envelope addressed to Kathryn in the Magnet Office and we will sort them. Here is a list of our wonderful CMCS staff. A description of their job can be found on our Community Magnet website. Write as many cards as you want! Thank you for making our staff feel appreciated!!!

ATTENDANCE

This is gentle reminder to send an absence note with your child when returning from an absence. A doctor's note is required for an absence of 5 or more consecutive days. After three absences with no explanation, students will be considered truant. As we approach the end of the school year, the office staff is busy clearing all student absences with no explanation from the parent or guardian. These absences will be considered unexcused.

What happens if you forget to send a note? Each month, Maria sends letters to all families with uncleared absences. If you receive a letter, it

is very important that you complete the form and return it within 10 days of receiving it. We know that sometimes students may forget to turn in absence notes or teachers may forget that a parent called or emailed the night before. But, even if you've already sent a note or called, we ask that you take the extra step of completing and returning the form to ensure that we have cleared all absences by the end of the school year. Thank you!!

LOST CASH $$$$

A wonderful and honest student found cash on the upper yard. We think it may belong to one of our 5th grade parents who visited campus on Thursday for the 5th grade Ballroom Dancing presentation. Please email me (trk2932@lausd.net) if you'd like to claim the cash. Let me know how much was lost and in what denominations.

The COVID count for April 18-24, 2022 is 1*.

*Please note that our COVID count may differ from that of the COVID Report Card. For the purposes of this blog, each case is counted only once, no matter how many times the individual tests positive after the initial test. The COVID Report Card counts the individual's initial positive test and again if the individual retests with positive results.

MASKING IS NO LONGER REQUIRED

Los Angeles Unified is pleased to announce that we have reached agreement with labor groups to align with the guidance from the State of California and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to make masking strongly recommended at all elementary, secondary and adult school campuses and in all non-school locations.

READY TO VOLUNTEER?

We are so excited to invite our parent volunteers back to campus! We have numerous applications to approve, but most are missing the TB clearance requirement. If you have applied to be a Tier II volunteer working on campus in classrooms, office, or chaperoning field trips, you must complete the online application, provide evidence of TB clearance, and complete a Volunteer Commitment Form. If you have turned in an application, but you're not sure if it is complete, please email me (trk2932@lausd.net) or Kathryn (kxm2679@lausd.net). Also, please be aware that volunteer applications must be updated each year.

VALET ETIQUETTE AND GUIDELINES

As you know, we teach our students to always BE SAFE, BE RESPECTFUL, BE RESPONSIBLE, AND BE TRUSTWORTHY! Sometimes, we as adults, need gentle reminders, too!

Here is a very important reminder about Valet Safety. Please read and heed:

It is imperative that everyone follow proper procedure with regard to the valet service. It has come to our attention that parents are walking students from the school to cars parked in the visitor’s lot and walking with students between the parked buses. For the safety of ALL students, please abide by the following rules both in the morning (7:30-8:15) and afternoon (2:15-3:00):

1. DO NOT enter through the exit gate. Enter only through the east gate.
2. Children are NOT allowed in the parking lot during the carpool hours (7:30am-8:15am and 2:15pm-3:00pm).
3. ALL students should load and unload at the curbside only. In the morning, please drop your student at the valet curb, and then park in the visitor’s lot if you are staying on campus. If you are parked in the school lot in the afternoon, your student must wait at valet for you to pull your car around. You do not have to go to the end of the valet line; simply pull around to the valet curb. The valet attendant will direct you.
4. NEVER walk a student between the parked buses! The valet attendant will cross you and your student to the other side if your car is parked on the street.
5. NEVER leave your car unattended in the valet line.
6. DO NOT try to drive between the buses and the line of valet cars.
7. Be patient when using the valet service.
8. Drive SLOWLY on school grounds.

Also, every valet parent was supplied with a paper placard with your child's name. It would help so much if every valet parent would display this placard in the windshield at pm pick up. If you need a placard, just let us know. We appreciate your cooperation!

Please, let’s all remember that even if you are in a rush, it’s important to be civil and courteous…our kids are watching!
