The First Day of School

The first day of school is Monday, August 15, 2022!

Classroom and bus assignments are posted on the parent portal!

WELCOME to the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

For the first time in a long time, parents may accompany their students to school and onto campus on the first day of school! Parents may walk with their children to the classroom. Please do not enter closed classrooms. Feel free to take pictures, meet with friends, and celebrate the first day. The bell will ring at 8:06 a.m. at which time parents will be invited to Room 1 for tea, coffee, and refreshments. Instruction will begin promptly at 8:06 a.m., so please do not linger near classrooms after the bell. Parents of English learners will also meet with Phyllis in Room 1. Other than that, this will just be a time to meet and socialize for a few minutes before you head out to enjoy the rest of your day. We look forward to the first day!!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION about
Breakfast in the Classroom

Due to a staff shortage, Breakfast in the Classroom will actually be served at recess in the cafeteria for the first week of school. Please make sure to provide your child with a healthy breakfast before leaving home.

IMPORTANT BUS INFORMATION

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year. We are excited to begin a new year with you and your students! Please take a moment to read these details regarding transportation.

If you plan to use the bus, the assigned route/stop must be used – you are not allowed to use other routes/stops for at least the first two weeks of school. If you need to use a different route/stop, please contact Kathryn beginning August 29th. She will be able to make requests for a dual route/stop or for changes to your assigned route or stop. Transportation is generally very accommodating once things settle down after two weeks. Returning families, even if a route/stop change was approved last year, these changes usually reset each year and you have to reapply for the change. Please plan to use only the currently assigned route/stop until Kathryn can apply for a change for you.

If we have not received the Transportation Plan, our default will be to put your student on their assigned bus at dismissal.

If the bus is your transportation plan, we encourage families to use it from the first day on. We find that beginning your plan on the first day makes transitions easier, helps Transportation evaluate the capacity on buses, and minimizes the impact of extra cars to our neighbors. Parents who really want to come to school on the first day are welcome to follow the bus (beat the bus), park (on the upper yard) and then watch your student get off.

We will be updating our website with more info regarding bus and valet protocol very soon. We’re all looking forward to an exciting and rewarding new school year. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding!

COVID-19 Testing for Back-to-School

Back to School Rapid Antigen Testing

All staff and students were invited to pick up a rapid antigen test prior to the first day of school. Students and employees should test within 48 hours of entering campus for the first day of school.

Specifically for Back to School testing, no action is needed for individuals who test negative or who do not have a test result; students are to attend school on the first day back.

Any individual with a positive test must stay home from school, follow isolation protocols, and upload the positive test result. ONLY positive test results need to be uploaded into the Daily Pass at dailypass.lausd.net, with a photo of the test kit that includes the following information written on a separate piece of paper:

○ The individual’s full legal name

○ The individual’s date of birth

○ Test date

○ Test result (“POSITIVE”)

○ Individual’s last date on site

An instructional video can be found by clicking on “How to Upload an Antigen Test Result” at: achieve.lausd.net/covidvideos

First Week of School

Schools will distribute antigen rapid tests at the end of the first week of school. All students and staff should also take a rapid antigen test within 48 hours prior to the start of the second week of school.
