It's Time for the Parade of Masks!
It's Time for the PARADE OF MASKS!
Dear Community Families,
Do you have concerns about the condition and safety of our campus? Since becoming CMCS principal, I've heard your concerns, and voiced them myself, about the crumbling and dangerous asphalt, the lack of shady areas on the upper yard, faulty air conditioning during extreme heat, and leaky, cold classrooms during the rainy season. Well, I just found out that Community Magnet Charter School is on the November 5th ballot for the following Modernization and Renovation Projects:
- Replace, upgrade and/or install heating and cooling systems and equipment;
- Renovate, install, construct, upgrade, and/or replace hardscape and landscape, including, but not limited to, paved, concrete and other hard surface paths, sidewalks, schoolyards, and areas;
- Replace, upgrade and/or install roofing systems and equipment;
- Construct/install shade shelters over play structures
Last Friday, invited guest Gabriel Rodriguez, our Area Bus Supervisor, and Kathryn answered your questions and concerns about the buses and bus drivers. If you were unable to attend the hybrid meeting, click here for the FAQ. If you have a question that hasn't been addressed, please feel free to contact Kathryn at kxm2679@lausd.net. We're here to help!
One question that came up during the meeting was about Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC). Many parents and students were unaware that, while breakfast is served during our recess periods (9:40am-10:30am), students may request breakfast at the cafeteria when they arrive to school. Madliene and Elva are always happy to serve- just knock on their door.
Lately, we've noticed an alarming number of students being sent to school sick with fevers and coughs. While attendance is very, very important, the health and safety of our students and staff are more important. If your child has a fever, they should not come back to school until they are fever-free, without medication, for a full 24 hours. A doctor's note is needed for 5 or more consecutive days of absence.
A while ago, a student came to me with the idea of a school newspaper. I thought it was such a great idea!! I didn't hear much more about it until a week ago when a team of investigative student reporters asked to interview the CMCS administrators. These reporters asked some tough questions, mostly about the infestation of ants at our school. They were all business and today, we are so proud to share the first issue of the student-created CMCS Chronicle! I can't wait for the next issue!
Did you have a chance to catch the 3rd and 4th grade Hispanic Heritage performances? Both performances were truly amazing! These wonderful performances were followed up by a brilliant show of cultural heritage at Friday's Hispanic Heritage Assembly. A HUGE THANK YOU to the following parents for putting together such a great show by World of Salsa: Fabiola & Alvaro Bermudez (Valentina, Gr. K & Camila, Gr. 4), Kathryn Castro (Camila & Mateo, Gr. 4), Yelba Lopez (Eliot, Gr. 1, & Elise, Gr. 3), and Seira Greenwood (Alanna, Gr. 1, & Kaylee, Gr. 3).Well, that's all for now. We can't wait to see you Friday's Parade of Masks!
Best,
Toni

The YMCA, in partnership with the LA Kings hockey team, is offering free Youth Ball Hockey leagues and clinics at YMCAs throughout Los Angeles County. The LA Kings Youth Ball Hockey leagues are available for youth ages 4-14. A YMCA membership is not required to participate. All gear, including safety equipment, hockey sticks, and balls, is provided at no extra cost. Practices are typically one evening per week, with games and scrimmages held on Friday nights or Saturday mornings/afternoons. Click links for English and Spanish flyers. This is not an LAUSD-sponsored/endorsed event.
