Thank You to Our Hero Bus Drivers!
Join us at this Friday's Morning Assembly to say
THANK YOU to our HERO Bus Drivers!!
Dear Community Families,
I’m happy to share that we had a smooth and uneventful week at Community Magnet! On Thursday, Kathryn and I welcomed our Above & Beyond Club members to the auditorium after enjoying lunch together, followed by popsicles and a movie. Each student received a book to keep, an In-N-Out gift card, and a Community Magnet car (or refrigerator) magnet. Congrats to all Above & Beyond members!
On Friday, we held our first Morning Assembly of the new year, led by our Principal for the Day, Vivienne K.! It was great to have everyone back on the upper yard, where the grass has grown in so beautifully. Hopefully, it stays that way!
The only issue on campus this week was the aftermath of the weekend rains. The manhole behind the first-grade classrooms flooded, resulting in a steady stream of water flowing through the area all week. District Maintenance & Operations and the DWP are actively working to resolve the issue.
This week, all classes will complete their mid-year reading and math assessments, and Cycle 3 of Student Nest tutoring will begin on Monday. Additionally, we will conduct a safety drill on Thursday to practice our emergency procedures. As always, we appreciate your partnership and look forward to another fantastic week!
Best,
Toni
WE ARE ONE CAMPAIGN
The We Are One Campaign has released the Know Your Immigration Rights One Pager for Students and Families. Please review it to learn more about Constitutional rights and legal protections. Additionally, if you haven’t already picked up a Red Card, these are also available in the main office for students. Attend Teatime with Toni on February 14th to learn more about LAUSD's We Are One Campaign.
Know Your Immigration Rights
The Los Angeles Unified School District is committed to ensuring a safe learning environment for all LAUSD students and families regardless of immigration status. The following are important rights and information on how to access legal assistance.
Overview
You have the right not to share your immigration status, country of origin, or how you entered the country with anyone-including law enforcement.
You have the right to privacy and safety in your home-law enforcement and immigration agents need a warrant to enter your home.
If you are detained or arrested, you have the right to remain silent AND the right to an attorney. You need to SAY that you want to remain silent and that you want an attorney.
If you are under 18, you have the right to have an adult with you when talking to government officials (including law enforcement).
Learn What Legal Options Are Available
Attend a screening with a local nonprofit legal aid organization experienced in immigration law to learn about different immigration options.
There are different avenues for permanent immigration status such as:
Victims of crimes
People afraid to return to their home countries due to persecution or torture, including individuals who identify as LGBTQ+
Minors who have been abandoned, abused or neglected by one or both of their parents
Trafficking victims
Victims of domestic violence
Green card/lawful permanent residence through a family member or based on employment
Make sure that you get advice from either a licensed attorney or OLAP-qualified representative.

Memorize important phone numbers or keep it in a safe place that all family members and emergency contacts can access.
Memorize your A number and/or family member’s A number or keep it in a safe place that all family members and emergency contacts can access.
Ensure that your school has updated emergency contact information including phone number and that the emergency contact has authorization to pick you up from school.
Keep your important items such as passport, identity information, proof of physical presence in the U.S. and financial information in a safe place and share with the emergency contact and your family.
If you are concerned you may be arrested/deported, provide written authorization for your emergency contact to make medical and legal decisions for your child.

- When a valet volunteer or LAUSD staff directs you, turn right at the parking lot and pull up to the Valet Curb. There can be a maximum of 3 cars at the Valet Curb.
